James Douglas (J.D.) Angell Obituary (1943 - 2015)

A dear soul returned home to his Heavenly Father after a brave three year battle with Agent Orange caused prostate cancer followed by pancreatic cancer. He was born in Cedar City to Josephine Holt and James C. Angell. As an Army brat, he traveled all over, but when his dad received orders to leave Ft. Douglas to Paris France, he stayed in Murray to finish school. Doug married his high school sweetheart Janeen Atkinson in the Logan LDS Temple 52 years ago. They had three children – Bret D. (Wendy), Anders J., and Nickole (Brandon) Dew, five grandchildren – Nicholas, J.D. II, Stephanie, Maddux and Brooklyn, and six great-grandchildren. Doug received the first LDS Scouting "Duty to God" award given in Anchorage, Alaska. He attended the U of U then became 50% partner in a Sinclair Station until the Vietnam War came calling. He joined the U.S. Army and attended the Army Signal "Officer Candidate School". Commissioned 9-1967. Four years active duty. Retired from the "Individual Active Reserve" as a "Major". He retired from the U.S. Postal Service Mgt. after 30 years. He has served faithfully in the LDS Church in Bishoprics, High Priest, Elders and Seventies Leadership, etc. Doug loved his God, his family, his friends, the outdoors, jeeping, fishing, our mountain property homesteaded by pioneer family. He is survived by his family listed above and his sister Patricia Butterfield, and many extended family members. Our heartfelt appreciation for the outpouring of love from so many and for such excellent care from the VA Oncology staff of Dr. Weis, the chemo staff, and the ER staff. Also Dr. Scaife at the Huntsman Center and Bristol Hospice nurse Michelle. A funeral service will be held on Monday, September 14, 2015 at 1:00 pm at the Union Park 5th Ward, 7699 Chad Street (approx. 750 East), Midvale, Utah. Viewings will be held on Sunday, September 13, 2015 from 5:00-7:00 pm at Jenkins-Soffe South Valley, 1007 W. South Jordan Parkway (10600 South), South Jordan, Utah and on Monday from 12:00-12:45 pm at the church. Interment at Utah Veterans Memorial Park. Funeral Home: Jenkins-Soffe South Valley 1007 W.
