James “Jimmy” Henderson
12/11/1927 – 07/06/2022
Our Father, Brother, Grandfather, and Great-Grandfather returned home to his Heavenly Father, Wife, and loving family on Wednesday, July 6, 2022 at the age of 94.
James Henderson was born at home in Salt Lake City, Utah, on December 11, 1927 to James Henderson and Sarah Logan Galt. He was the oldest of five children. James married Darlene Maude Hadley on December 30, 1950 in Salt Lake City, Utah while James was on a 72-hour leave from the Marine Corps. Their marriage was later solemnized in the Salt Lake Temple on November 30, 1960. They lived in Rose Park, Utah for 47 years where they raised two daughters and one son, and the last 20 years in West Jordan, Utah.
James lived the first 14 years of his life in Winton, Wyoming, a small mining town north of Rock Springs, Wyoming. His family moved back to Salt Lake City in 1941. After graduating from South High School, he enlisted in the U.S. Marine Corps. He proudly served during WWII and the Korean War on two aircraft carriers, the USS Saipan and the USS Franklin D. Roosevelt, where he loved to service the F4U Corsair fighter aircraft.
James was an electrician and member of the International Brotherhood of Electrical Workers (IBEW) for 60+ years. He was proud to work for Young Electric Sign Company hanging some of the original neon signs in Las Vegas, Nevada. He also worked on the “Wendover Will” neon cowboy sign in West Wendover, Nevada and the First Security Bank sign in Salt Lake City, Utah. James loved hunting and fishing. He also enjoyed traveling with his wife in retirement – they were often found in their camper at Lake Mead or Zion National Park.
He is survived by his brother Ray Henderson of Woods Cross, Utah, daughters Deborah (James) Harrison of St. George, Utah, Denise (Thomas) West of South Jordan, Utah, son Steven (Lisa) Henderson of South Jordan, Utah, nine grandchildren, and twelve great-grandchildren. He is preceded in death by his parents, wife, two brothers, and one sister.
