James “Jim” Webster MacDonald, 59, passed away peacefully after a long battle with prostate cancer on September 20, 2021 in Anaheim, California surrounded by his family. Jim was born November 28, 1961 in Provo, Utah to James and Mitsue MacDonald. He graduated from Granger High School in 1980 before serving a mission for the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter Day Saints in Independence Missouri. Upon returning from his mission, he married Michelle “Shelly” Horne in the Salt Lake City Temple in 1984, and resided in Murray, Utah where he raised his family.
Jim will be remembered for his “larger than life” personality and fun-loving nature. He was always the life of the party, quick with a joke or one-liner, and was everybody’s best friend. Whether he was “flipping” his employees for lunch, or betting his grandkids a few dollars during a game of catch, he knew how to make people smile. He made many life-long friends during his 34 year career as a Store Director for Smith’s, leaving many former employees and customers with a story to tell about Jim.
Jim loved spending time with his family and will be remembered by those close to him for his unwavering selflessness. You could always count on Jim to be genuine and willing to sacrifice his time to help those he loved. He had a nick-name for all of his closest family and friends and had the unique ability to form a personal bond with those he met. He is adored by his kids and grandkids, and will be greatly missed by his family and friends.
Jim is survived by his wife, Shelly “Shell-Bell;” children: Brooke “Doodlemac” (TJ “Big Boy”) Dykman, Bret “Bud” (Kirstin “Kirsti”), and Brynn “Brynnie;” grandchildren: Cambreigh “Cam-fly,” Taelyn “Jimmy,” Kailie “Minion,” Kaeden “Webster,” Hadley “Puff,” Cossette “Cozy,” Cohen “Cohen Bro,” and Kinsley “Puff Jr.” He is also survived by his brother, Joe (Carla), and sister, Linda. He was preceded in death by his parents and brother, Jeff.
Jim’s family would like to thank Huntsman Cancer Institute, specifically, Dr. Benjamin Maughan, Dr. Lindsay Maxwell, and their staff, for the outstanding and compassionate care they provided to Jim throughout his treatments.
