James "Phil" Phillip Salm Obituary (1930 - 2014)

James Phillip Salm passed away in Kearns, Utah, due to natural causes at the age of 84. He was born in Magna, Utah, to Emil Phillip (Molly) Salm and Kathryn Margaret Staker. He married his sweetheart, Karma Thora Young, on June 6, 1952 and was solemnized in the Oakland LDS Temple on April 27, 1985. Phil graduated from Cyprus High School in Magna, Utah, 1948. He graduated from the University of Utah in 1965. He retired after 35 years as journeyman electrician from Kennecott. He was an ordinance worker in the Jordan River Temple and an active member in the Tooele Gem & Mineral Club. He was skilled in hunting, fishing, lapidary and silver work; and he loved woodcarving and gardening. At one time, he had over 69 different roses in his garden. Phil's favorite game was baseball and he had a passion for classic art and music. He will be remembered for his quick wit and good humor. Phil is survived by his second wife, Dixie Astle; two step-daughters, LaRayne (Don) Wessel and Christine Braden; his foster daughter, Zeneth (Stan) Orawiec; and his two sisters, Mary Salm and Lila (Carl) Hansen. Funeral Services will be held Saturday, November 8, 2014, at 12 Noon in the Kearns Utah Central Stake Center located at 4575 West 5415 South, Kearns, Utah, with a viewing from 10-11:45 a.m. Interment: Redwood Memorial Estates.
