Our mother, grandmother, great grandmother, sister, and friend passed away surrounded by her loving family on June 7, 2020, in American Fork UT, after battling complications with encephalopathy and renal failure. Her sarcasm, feistiness, smile and love will be greatly missed by all who knew her.

Janet was born January 17, 1950, in Salt Lake City UT to William Ferrell Edwards and Valda LaRue Larsen. She primarily grew up in Midvale UT and attended Hillcrest High School. She married Bernie Irvine in 1967 and was later divorced in 1995. They had 3 children who loved her dearly. She was a “hands-on” mom who always went out of her way to make every holiday and birthday special. She was selfless and always made sure her children, family, and friends were taken care of and felt loved.

She lived in Cottonwood Heights, UT in our family hillside home for 39 years and we appreciated the friendship and support that was given to her from many neighbors and church members nearby. Her parents lived with her for over 12 years and one of her greatest accomplishments was taking care of them in their last days. She recently moved to American Fork, UT in 2017 in an effort to downsize and simplify.

She was a member of the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints and loved the spirit that's present with singing and listening to hymns. She liked to listen to music, read books, and was an award-winning published poet.

Mom’s best friends were her dogs, her current companion Kodi and previous pups Keona, Bandit, Shasta and Muffin. She had a special bond with them, and they would follow her everywhere she went and never let her out of their sight. They provided a comfort and support system, especially in her last days, that we are eternally grateful for.

She loved to go out with her family and friends to eat at her favorite restaurants, whether it was a burger at Chubby’s, some Cauliflower Soup at Zupas or a Taco at Café Rio… she was game anytime! She loved going to the movies (especially the scary ones) and enjoyed fun days out browsing stores and finding the best deals.

Her strength and perseverance were an inspiration to all, Mom was tenacious and had true grit. She will be deeply missed by all that knew her.

She is survived by her children; Shellie (Mike) DeJong, Jason (Elizabeth) Irvine, and Matt (Adana) Irvine; 7 grandchildren - Jessica (Jessie-Q), Kenzie, Jonah, Olivia, Atlas, Talon and Indigo; 1 great-grandchild Adrian; and siblings - Kay (Joan) Edwards, Lynn Edwards, Karen (Rick) Brady, Brent Edwards, and Bobby Edwards. She is preceded in death by her parents and brother Mark Edwards. Her greatest joy in life was her family.

Special thanks to the University of Utah: American Fork Dialysis Center team and to the Symbii Hospice team (especially Rachel, Lisa, Corey, Megan, and Shyler) for their amazing support and care.
