Janis Hull Degen Obituary (1933 - 2016)

Janis Hull Degen passed away peacefully March 22, 2016, from renal and heart failure. She was born February 11, 1933 in Brigham City, Utah to William Roy Hull and Frances Leggett, the fourth of five children. She grew up all her life in Utah, spending her childhood on her father's trout farm. Janis attended one year at BYU before marrying her husband, George Paul Degen, in the Salt Lake LDS Temple on April 28, 1955. They had two daughters. She was a homemaker for many years as her daughters grew. Afterwards, she worked as a secretary at various businesses. She spent many years working for the LDS church, first in the welfare department and then as the secretary to the president of the Salt Lake Temple, a job she loved. Janis was a very creative person and enjoyed beautifying her own and her families' homes with ceramic works and paintings. She was a doting grandmother and great-grandmother who loved hugs from children. She was an adopted grandma to many in her neighborhood and ward. Janis is survived by her husband; her sister Winnie McGinty (Earl); her children Debbie Skousen (Jeff) and Nancy Degen; her grandchildren Jessica Wollschleger (Steve), Jacob Skousen (Terra), Jenean Skousen, Joseph Skousen (Alyssa); and two adored great-grandchildren, Adam and Rachel. She is predeceased by her parents, her brother William Hull (Marie), and her sisters Joyce Rimmington (Ronald) and Ruth Olsen (Wood). Her family would like to thank the staff of Landmark Hospital for their wonderful care in her last days. Viewings will be held on Friday, March 25 from 6-8 pm and on Saturday, March 26 from 10-11am at the Little Cottonwood 20th ward building, 1160 E. Vine St., Murray, Utah. Funeral services will be held Saturday, March 26 at 11 am at the same ward building. Janis will be interred at Elysian Burial Gardens following the services.
