Jean Young

–

South Jordan, Utah

Jean Graham Young, age 66, of South Jordan, Utah, passed away suddenly in her home on Sunday, August 10, 2025. Jean was born on April 15, 1959, at LDS Hospital to her late parents, Helen Ermadene Olsen and Clarence Melvin Graham. She was their only child.

Jean is survived by her husband Brent Morris Young, daughter Emily Jean Lee-Mesa, son-in-law Palmer Curtis Lee-Mesa, step-daughter Amy Michelle Young, and step-son Steven Thomas Young.

She was baptized and a member of the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints. She participated in church activities with her loved family, friends, and neighbors. Jean enjoyed spending time with her family, catching up with friends, and working throughout her career in the mining industry. Jean was a lover of her Scottish family history, her various family pets, and the beauty of the nature she lived nearby. As a child, Jean loved spending weekends at her family cabin with cousins and close childhood friends.

Jean attended East High School in Salt Lake City, Utah, and began a long and loved working career soon after. It was during her working career that she met and married her husband Brent Morris Young, who was a previous friend of 15 years. Jean and Brent spent a long and fruitful 31 years married with a total of 46 years spent enjoying each other’s company. These years together were filled with love, laughter, and the journey of raising a mixed family of 3 children, each 10 years apart from one another. The family home was never without dogs, movies, and most of all, sweet treats enjoyed together after a home cooked meal. Jean was well known for her home cooked spaghetti dinners on Sunday nights for her family. She filled her friends, family, and home with love and joy. Her laugh and joy for life will remain unmatched by any other, and her profound pride and love for her children will never be forgotten.

To the surprise of her loving family, Jean was called home early and left this world to fulfill a greater and cherished calling. She joined her dearest departed family members with open and loving arms.

Jean was additionally a fierce fighter and survivor of breast cancer, and a strong advocate for women’s health research. Because of this, the family asks that any gifts be directed towards the American Cancer Society for breast cancer research in her name.

She will be dearly missed by all who knew and loved her.

A Celebration of Life will be held on Friday, August 15, 2025 from 6:00 – 8:00 pm at Jenkins-Soffe South Valley, 1007 W. South Jordan Parkway, South Jordan, Utah.
