Jeris Young Obituary (1933 - 2024)

Jeris Young passed away peacefully in her sleep March 19, 2024. Jeris was born on July 14, 1933 in Rocky Ford, Colorado to Claude and Vivian Johnson. She graduated from Rocky Ford High School in 1952 and from Otero Jr. College in 1954. Jeris had an adventurous soul and began her working career as a Stewardess with United Airlines. She met Cecil Allchurch on a flight to London in 1956 and they married in 1957. Cecil and Jeris had two children, Kim and Erin. As a family they shared many adventures together, living in England, the Netherlands and Belgium. After several years abroad, they moved to Parachute, Colorado and later to Glenwood Springs, Colorado where Cecil passed away. During her time in Glenwood Springs, she met and married Robert Young. Bob and Jeris built their life together in Glenwood. They shared a zest for travel and spending time together on their deck marveling at the view of Mt. Sopris and the Roaring Fork River. In 2002 they moved to Grand Junction where they made fond memories with friends and family. They were inspired daily by the magnificent view of the Colorado National Monument. Jeris’s kindness, sense of humor and faith allowed her to make many lasting friendships. She was adored by many. Jeris’s biggest source of pride was her family. She was always most happy when her loved ones were by her side. Jeris shared several vacations with them, traveling to many destinations around the world. From whale watching off the Alaskan Coast to the Panama Canal, Jeris loved vacationing with her family, especially her twin grandsons Ryan & Jared. She always enjoyed going to her youngest grandson, Brenden’s, music performances. Brenden was selected to march in the Rose Bowl Parade and Jeris was delighted to be in the stands cheering him on. Jeris’s smile, kindness and classic style will be missed by all who knew and loved her. The family would like to thank Copper Creek Memory Care and Beyond Senior Care for the kindness and empathy they continually gave to Jeris.
