Jon Quayle Ward, M.D. Obituary (1938 - 2013)

Jon Quayle Ward, M.D., "Grandpa Jon," age 74 passed away March 10, 2013 at his home in Sandy, Utah from non-alcoholic liver disease and heart failure. He was born on September 20, 1938 to J. Quayle Ward and Grace Cannon Ward. He was the oldest of 5 children. Growing up, he spent his summers with his brothers up at Hillbrook Ranch, "The farm," in Midway, Utah. After graduating from East High School with top honors, he attended the University of Utah and graduated from the U Medical School. He did his internship at Henepin County Hospital in Minnesota and his Anesthesiology residency at the U of U Medical Center. He was an Air Force captain at Travis Air Force Base for 2 years. He worked at Cottonwood Hospital from 1968 to its closing in 2009 (41 years) and at the Vascular Care Center. He married Margo McMurdie in the Salt Lake LDS Temple on April 28, 1961 and they had six children. Jon loved Midway, Utah and drove up there every week to work on the farm and rebuild tractors with his brother Steve. He served on the Irrigation Committee and had many dear friends up there. His favorite place to be was on the tractor in his overalls. Known as "Doc," he loved welding at Pard's and talking on his ham radio. His favorite trips were snowmobiling in Yellowstone and going to Lake Powell and working on the houseboat. He was a loving father, husband, farmer, welder, doctor, ham radio operator, choir singer, jokester, mechanic, and friend to many. He loved Mexican food, chocolate donuts with peanuts, ice cream, In-n-Out Burger and John Deere tractors. He had a passion for learning and was a faithful member of the LDS Church. Survived by his wife of 52 years, Margo, daughters Kim (Jaren) Davis, Heidi (Robert) Harmon, Scott (Sandra) McMillin, Lisa (Kevin) Packer, Johanna (Francis) Palepoi, and his son Joshua Quayle (Nichole) Ward MD, and 21 grandchildren; his siblings Stephen C. (Diane) Ward, Abby (Terry) Wagstaff, Jeffrey F. (Susan) Ward, and R. Charles (Karma) Ward. Preceded in death by, his daughter, Anne McMillin, and his parents. A funeral service will be at 12 noon on Saturday, March 16, 2013 in the Cottonwood Creek Stake Center, 1500 E. Creek Road. Family and friends may pay respects on Friday, March 15, 2013 from 6-8 p.m. at the Cottonwood Creek Stake Center or Saturday morning at the Stake Center from 10-11:30 a.m. A graveside will be at the Midway City Cemetery at 3:30 p.m. The family would like to thank the medical professionals at IMC, Doug Romney MD and Robert Jones MD.
