Joseph de Mik

–

West Jordan, Utah

In Loving Memory of Joseph William deMik
1942 – 2025
On July 2, 2025, our beloved Joseph "Joe" deMik—cherished husband, father, grandfather, great-grandfather, great-great-grandfather, and uncle—passed away peacefully in his sleep at the age of 83.
Joe's one and only love was his wife, Sue. The two were married at the age of 17 and shared a remarkable 65-year journey side by side. Together, they built a beautiful family and a life filled with love, adventure, and laughter. They raised three children and created a home that was always warm, welcoming, and full of joy.
A true adventurer at heart, Joe had a zest for life that was contagious. As a teenager, his spirited nature kept his parents on their toes. Throughout his life, he embraced every opportunity to explore the world around him. He loved camping, fishing, golfing, boating, sailing—and of course, dancing. One of his proudest accomplishments was circumnavigating the globe with Sue aboard their 45-foot sailboat, Resolute.
Joe had a special place in his heart for children, especially his grandchildren and great-grandchildren. Watching him hold a baby, with tears of joy in his eyes, was a moment that touched everyone around him. During his and Sue’s global sailing adventures, they would always make time for the local children they met—sharing gifts, stories, and smiles.
If you knew Joe, you knew the kind of man he was—trusting, kind-hearted, generous, and wise. His sharp mind and entrepreneurial spirit led to several successful businesses in the graphic arts and printing industries. As president of the Litho Crafters Club of Salt Lake City, he helped foster community and innovation in his field, leaving a lasting mark on the local printing industry.
Joe loved deeply and gave freely. He was always ready to lend a hand—whether fixing something (often better than MacGyver could) or offering life advice. His warmth, sense of humor, and willingness to help made him a joy to be around. He was the kind of man who made everyone feel like family, and his absence leaves a profound void in our lives.
Joe was preceded in death by his wife, Susan deMik; his daughter, Nona deMik; his parents, Herman and Marjorie deMik; his siblings, Katherine, Gary, and Robert deMik; and his grandson, Michael deMik.
He is survived by his son Jeff deMik and wife Rikki; daughter Jody Leato and husband Rick; eight grandchildren, thirteen great-grandchildren, and two great-great-grandchildren.
A Celebration of Life will be held on Friday, July 11, 2025, from 5:00 to 7:00 p.m. at Jenkins-Soffe Funeral Home (1007 W South Jordan Parkway). Please join us in honoring Joe's life and sharing memories. Business casual attire is appreciated. Light refreshments will be served.
