Joseph Clarke Jones, M.D. Obituary (1927 - 2015)

Murray-UT-Joseph Clarke Jones passed away February 16, 2015 in Murray, Utah as a result of Pulmonary Fibrosis. He was born February 11, 1927, in Chicago, Illinois, the son of Vella Ann Clarke and Dr. Joseph Oscar Jones. He was raised and educated in Midvale, Utah. He attended the University of Utah where he received a B.A. in Vertebrate Zoology and a Doctorate in Medicine, then interned in Spokane, Washington, followed by two years of service as a Captain in the U.S. Air Force at Kirtland Air Force Base in Albuquerque, New Mexico. When the family returned to Salt Lake, Clarke did a three year residency in Obstetrics and Gynecology. He moved to Murray and practiced medicine at the Cottonwood Hospital and had his office in Midvale. He headed the Ob-Gyn department for a time and was Chief of Staff. He also served on the Planning Board for the Alta View Hospital and many committees with the State and County Medical Associations but most of all he enjoyed his practice and the people he served. Clarke married Dorene Rushforth in the Salt Lake Temple June 28, 1954. They are the parents of four children J.R. (Carlynn) Taylorsville, Utah; MaryAnn (Gordon) Wilson, Albuquerque, New Mexico; Blaine R. (Robin), Oneonta, New York; and Lloyd R. (Sherry) Murray, Utah. They have 15 grandchildren and nine great- grand-children with number ten on the way. His family has been his crowning achievement. He was active in The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints all his life. He served in the California Mission as a young Elder and he and Dorene served in the John Johnson Farm Home in the Kirkland, Ohio area 1994-95. He served in two bishoprics, as a Branch President, on the High Council, Elders Quorum President, High Priest Group Leader and teacher. He is survived by his wife and family, his sister, Beryl Griffiths and her family, brother and sister- in-law, James and Pat Rushforth and their family. He was preceded in death by his parents, his sister Ann and his brother-in-law Kenneth Griffiths. A viewing will be held on Friday, February 20, 2015, from 6:00-8:00 p.m. at Jenkins-Soffe Mortuary, 4760 So. State Street. Funeral Services will be held on Saturday, February 21, 2015, at 11:00 a.m. at the Murray Hillside Ward Chapel located at 435 East 5600 South, Murray, with a viewing from 10-10:45 a.m. In lieu of flowers, make a donation to your favorite charity.
