Joy Reynolds

–

Holladay, Utah

Our loving mother, grandma, great-grandma, and companion, Joy Reynolds, at age 86, completed her life on earth on June 30, 2022. She passed away peacefully and is now reunited with her eternal companion and sweetheart. Our hearts ache at this great loss, but we rejoice in the knowledge that we will be with her again in our Heavenly Father’s presence.

Joy was born on October 15, 1935, to Ervin Rex Allington and Lorene Isabel Roberts Allington in Salt Lake City, Utah. She remembers her childhood with fondness, and cherished her dear father, mother and older brother. On June 16, 1953, she married her sweetheart Charles Calvin Reynolds in the Salt Lake Temple. Joy and Cal are the loving parents of five daughters and son-in-laws, 21 grandchildren with 13 spouses, and 35 great grandchildren.

Family, service, and the gospel of Jesus Christ are three founding principles that exemplifies Joy’s life.

Joy loved being a wife, mother, and grandmother. She was patient and kind, and was always teaching and encouraging her children by her faithful example. Joy and Cal made it a priority to be together with their family and made lasting memories, whether traveling, at family gatherings, in the temple, or just spending time with each other. Joy was the matriarch of this great family that she faithfully led by example in her Christ-centered home. She was such an important anchor in their lives. She had a special relationship with each person in her family, and she kept busy attending musical performances, grandkid sporting events, graduations, family activities, recitals, and programs. She loved her grandchildren and every invitation she received.

Joy was happy and fun to be with, and she shared her love and light with others. She has many dear friendships that will continue after this life. So many friends and neighbors had a beautiful influence in her life and her family.

Joy was blessed with wonderful talents. She had a beautiful voice and loved music, she helped guide and encourage her daughters’ love for music and singing at a young age. To be able to hear her daughters sing and share the message of the gospel was one of her favorite things. Joy crocheted beautifully, a gift that she first learned from her mother. Many family and friends have received her beautiful crocheting, made from hours and hours of love. She loved spending time working in her yard and enjoying the beauties that had been created. Joy was a beautiful hostess. She enjoyed the company of friends, neighbors, and family in her home. She said that she loved the sweet spirit they brought when they came and the love that remained when they left.

Throughout her wonderful life, Joy was a faithful member of The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints. She served in various callings in her wards and stakes in the Relief Society and Primary organizations over the years. She loved serving and ministering to others, and served faithfully in those special assignments to minister to dear sisters throughout her whole life. Together with her loving husband, Joy and Cal served a mission in the Polynesian Cultural Center in Liaie, Hawaii (2005-2006), and for many years at the Conference Center in Salt Lake City, Utah. They treasured this special time, and loved serving the Lord and sharing the light of the gospel. Joy loved the scriptures, she loved studying and learning about the life and Atonement of Jesus Christ and this beautiful, eternal plan of salvation. She lived close to the spirit and taught by example to remain on the covenant path, love and bless others, and diligently live a life prepared.

Joy was preceded in death by her husband Cal Reynolds, her parents, step-father Virgil H. Rasband, and her brother Ervin Darrel Allington. She is survived by her children: Kallie and Dave Dent, Jan and Steve Scott, Michelle and Lance Nielsen, Allison and Dennis Bennion, and Lauri and John Weston; grandchildren; and great-grandchildren.
