Judith Powell

–

West Jordan, Utah

After being separated by death for almost twenty long years, Judy Powell was reunited in the arms of Ken Powell, her eternal sweetheart and best friend. Judy was freed from the sufferings of Parkinson’s Disease when she passed away on January 19, 2024. She was surrounded by the amazing love, respect, dedication, and kindness of her family.

Judy was born August 29, 1939 to Milton and Laura Corbridge Jones at Malad City, Idaho and was named Judith Ariene Jones. The happiest day of her life was when she married Kenneth Bruce Powell on June 23, 1961 in the Logan LDS temple. Judy acknowledges that her greatest contribution to life was giving birth to four beautiful daughters - Shandi Engman, Jana Williams, Jillann Kelly, and Kenda Millet. She felt the world was a better place for having them in it.

Judy found joy in life from being around and serving little children. She not only loved her own children, grandchildren, and great-grandchildren, but also “her” children in primary and elementary school. She served over 45 years in primary and worked at the same elementary school for 20 years and knew and loved each student individually.

Judy learned from every calling she had in the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints but felt being a Bishop’s wife and a full-time proselyting missionary with her husband taught her many new things that she needed to know. Judy supported and promoted education not only for herself but for her family and was proud of all their efforts. The greatest challenge Judy faced was watching her husband suffer and quickly fade to 85 pounds as he gradually went downhill each day for two years. However, this greatest challenge became her greatest blessing because she was able to serve him, love him, take care of him, and be with him every minute of the day as he became totally dependent. They truly became one.

Judy humbly acknowledged her blessings and that they came from a loving Heavenly Father. She knew the atonement is real and expressed gratitude each day. Her final words to her amazing family are these, “THE GOSPEL IS TRUE AND I LOVE YOU ONE MORE THAN YOU LOVE ME AND I ALWAYS WILL.”
