Karen LaRae Jensen Christiansen 1940-2026 South Jordan, Utah.
Our beloved Mother, Grandmother, Great Grandmother, and friend passed away peacefully surrounded by her loving family on March 3rd, 2026.
Karen was born October 15th, 1940 to Grover James Jensen and Reva Harding Jensen in Gunnison, Utah. She grew up in Axtell, Utah on a farm where she learned to work hard and be resourceful. She met the love of her life in High School, Karl Joseph Christiansen, and they were married June 12th, 1958- their marriage was later solemnized in the Manti Temple on September 12th, 1970. Karen and Karl enjoyed nearly 68 years together.
As an adult, Karen continued her work ethic starting at Eimac for many years and finishing her career at Hercules, where she was the first woman supervisor in the propulsion department. She retired in 1999 as a trainer for new employees.
Karen was a devout member of the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter Day Saints. She held many important callings such as Primary President and Activity Days leader. She enjoyed working in the Jordan River Temple and serving two missions with her husband Karl. Karen was also proud of her service for many years in the Daughters of the Utah Pioneers as secretary/treasurer and cherished the friendships she made there.
Karen was an amazing seamstress, especially for her four daughters- making prom dresses, vests, etc. Besides being a great cook, Karen bottled and preserved everything she could from Karl's garden. She also bottled deer and elk from their hunting trips in the beautiful mountains of Mayfield that they loved so much. Her other hobbies were genealogy, cruising around the world, and camping and riding ATV's with her adventurous family.
Karen is survived by her husband, Karl, her four daughters- Laurie (Fred Christiansen), Cheryl (Larry Sumsion), Jana (Mike Pratt), Nichole (Chris Mallory), her 13 grandchildren, and 24 great grandchildren with three more on the way. She will be dearly missed by all who knew and loved her.
Karen was preceded in death by her parents, her siblings- Ned Andrews, Evelyn Rosenvall, Maxine Shiner, Roberta Arnold, and Kenyon Jensen. Also preceded in death by her cherished grandson, Jordan Christian Frank Mallory.
The funeral service will be Saturday, March 14th, 2026 at 11:00 a.m. with the viewing from 9:00 a.m. to 10:30 a.m. in the Parkway 4th ward building- 3407 West 9625 South, South Jordan, Utah. Internment will be in the Mayfield, Utah cemetery under the direction of Jenkins-Soffe Mortuary.
The family would like to extend their heartfelt thanks to the doctors, nurses, and staff at Jordan Valley Hospital for their kind and professional care of our dear Mother.
