Karen Verda Ruesch Oldroyd was born July 18th, 1935 in Springdale, Utah to Howard and Susan Ruesch. She passed away August 22nd 2023 in Salt Lake City, Utah.\n\nAll of Karen’s adult life when she was asked how old she was, she would reply with a smile on her face, “I’m 19”. She passed away at 19….. 69 years later.\n\nKaren grew up as a tomboy. She loved riding horses, helping on the farm and gardening. She followed her dad around a lot “helping him with his chores” because she was considered “too little” to be doing real chores. She loved to play sports: baseball, basketball, just about anything that involved handling a ball. She loved to watch football and her favorite team was the Green Bay Packers.\n\nIn 1955 she met her future husband, Morris Lynn Oldroyd, while working at Grand Canyon National Park. They were married October 17, 1955 in Springdale, Utah. They are the parents of Karl (Lynne), Loie Cash (Pete), Vern, Dale (Tammy), and Phil (Canela).\n\nKaren worked for several years as a medical assistant for Dr. Gerald Snarr. She served for a total of 15 years in the hospital branch for the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter Day Saints at both Cottonwood Hospital and Intermountain Medical Center. This was one of the highlights of her life. \n\nShe enjoyed wood working in her shop and made many wonderful pieces of furniture. She loved church music and served as a ward organist for over 25 years.\n\nFuneral services will be Saturday August 26th, 2023 at the Brownstone Chapel 6410 S. 725 E. Murray, Utah. Viewing will be from 11:30 to 12:30 with the funeral to follow at 1:00.
