Kathleen Haslam

–

South Jordan, Utah

I am a child of God, and he has sent me here, given me an earthly home with parents kind and dear. I was born in Spring City, Utah on June 14, 1941, to William McKay Kelsey and Kathleen Syme Kelsey. When I was a child, we moved to Salt Lake City and eventually settled in Garfield Utah. Dad was employed by Kennecott Copper and spent the remainder of my childhood years in the Garfield community provided by Kennecott for it's employees. Those were very happy times, and I have many happy memories with my siblings and friends. I attended Brockbank Jr. High in Magna where I was a drum majorette. I also attended Cyprus High School where I enjoyed and was involved in many activities. I loved swimming at the community pool in Magna. I also loved the different dances that were put on by the church, including the "Gold and Green Ball" where I met my future eternal companion Terry Marrington Haslam. We dated for many months and were married during the summer of 1958 on August 5th. I graduated from Cyprus High in the summer of 1959. That summer was very action packed for us as a newlywed couple. We moved out of our basement apartment in Magna and bought our first house in Kearns Utah. Months later we welcomed our first baby boy Terry Kim (1959). And so, we were off on our exciting life of home ownership and our cute little family in Kearns.

Terry worked at Kennecott as well and I set up our happy home. I worked as an attendant in a Chiropractic office and a few small jobs on the side to help make ends meet and soon, we welcomed our first baby girl Cindee in the spring of 1961 and later a second baby boy Rick in the summer of 1964. Our lives were speeding up and our family was growing. We started making some additions to our home. We dug out our basement by hand, a shovel full at a time and soon had a finished basement. About that time we were blessed with our 4th child, a baby boy Troy in the summer of 1969.

My career at that time ramped up and I took some schooling to become an executive secretary. Over the preceding years I was a dependable and loyal assistant at Olympus Arial Surveys, Bill Horman Realty, Savage Rock and Graymont Inc. I loved these jobs and enjoyed the people I worked for and the lasting friendships they provided me. During these years we enjoyed many trips. Countless boating trips to Lake Powell, Flaming Gorge and Lake Tahoe.

In the summer of 1977, we were surprised with the unexpected news of an upcoming arrival of our 5th child. We welcomed our precious Sunshine in December of 1977. With the expanding family we decided to upgrade our living situation and built our beautiful home in Sandy, Utah. We moved in August of 1978 and spent almost 30 years in this home as our family grew and our life blossomed.

I have a very strong testimony of the truthfulness of the Gospel of Jesus Christ. I have gained many blessings and happiness from my lifelong knowledge of my relationship with God the Father and His Son, our redeemer. My life in accordance with the principles of the Church, has offered many opportunities to serve and be involved with the community. I have served in many capacities and callings in the church. I have been involved in Sunday School presidencies, Young Women presidencies, visiting teacher, Relief Society presidencies and Activity Coordination's. I was happy to be involved in Church sporting activities such as softball and volleyball. The church calling I loved the most was as the Director of the "Road Show" program. I directed, wrote and produced many shows over the years. I enjoyed the very special relationships I formed with the participants of these shows and loved to see the fruits of the hard work flower into great award-winning productions.

As we grew older we transitioned into a highly service oriented schedule of callings in the church. Terry and I served a very cherished calling as ambassadors and instructors at the Joseph Smith Building in downtown Salt Lake City. We made lifelong relationships there with many brothers and sisters in in this capacity.

In early 2005 we accepted and departed on a couple's service mission to the Cincinnati Ohio Mission. We were assigned to the Adams Branch. We gained innumerable blessings and joy from this experience. We loved the people and missionaries we served with all our heart, and it remains one of the most cherished times of our lives.

I am survived by my loving Husband Terry. Son T.K (Cheryl), daughter Cindee (Randy), son Rick (Monique), son Troy (Cathy), and daughter Sunshine (Brady). 17 grandkids and their spouses and 19 great grandkids. Brother Richard (Dick) Kelsey and many extended family members. They all are so very special and loved. Countless friends, family and acquaintances too numerous to count, as well as a very special friend Renee McClelland. All my love until we meet again. Special mention to all of hospice care team and homecare service individuals who have helped me and my family in these last days. You all are angels.

Preceded in death by my mother and father, brother Gary and sister Linda. Stepfather Gene Ericson and very special stepmother Ethel Kelsey.
