Kathy Dever Obituary (1953 - 2024) - South Salt Lake, Utah

Kathy Dever had to leave us on December 23, 2024. It was a Monday. She was 71. Kathy was born Kathleen Edith Nelson on June 17, 1953, in Syracuse, NY, to Robert Dean and Edith Parks Nelson. She grew up and lived most of her life in Salt Lake City, South Salt Lake, and Murray, UT. In 1977 she married Keith Dewey Dever. Her oldest son, Rick Dewey Dever, was born January 29, 1977. In 1981, Kathy bought a home (green trailer) in Murray to raise Ricky. And Nicky! Her youngest son, Nick Dorval Dever, was born February 26, 1983. We were 3, then we got our cat Zebra. Z-Cat made us 4! The green trailer was our home for 20 years. After battling alcoholism, Kathy achieved and maintained her sobriety for the last 24 years. She is my role model. I believe anything is possible because of her! Kathy worked at Glade's Candy Co., Mail-Well, and Murray Care Center, but it was while working at Deseret Industries, she met Mike Romero. Mike has been my mom's greatest protector, defender, and friend for 30 years. He is a role model, a father figure. It's been an honor to have Mike Romero in our lives and love our mom! My mom fought cancer and beat it. Four years. Thank you for fighting, mom. You had to leave us, but you will never be gone. Kathy is survived by her sister, Susan Rhoten (70); her sons, Rick Dever (47), Nick Dever (41); and grandchildren, Jove Lee Blisse Bowen (29), Julyiah Bourne Bowen (25), Derrick Dylan Dever (17). She was preceded in death by her husband, Keith; and her brother, Philip Euson.
