Kathy Rockwood Glaittli proudly answered to many names during her lifetime. Foremost among them are Mother, Sister, Daughter, Aunt, Grandma, Friend, Teacher, Tutor, and Wife. Kathy is preceded in death by her sister Mary, and her parents Linn and Elsie Rockwood. Those left to grieve in her temporary absence include her husband, Doug Glaittli; her children, Annie (Mitch) Inkley, Liz, Chris,Matt, and Gabi; and her siblings, Alan (Ghislaine) Rockwood, Scott (Kate) Rockwood, Frank (Heidi) Rockwood, and brother-in-law Steve Farley . On the morning of August 20, 2019, Kathy passed away, surrounded by loved ones, or to paraphrase her own words, the curtains closed on act II and, for her, act III began.
Kathy was born on August 28, 1954 and always recognized her name and role as Daughter, both to Linn and Elsie, and to her Father and Mother in Heaven. She answered as Daughter in her parent’s final years and gave comfort to her siblings as she acted as Sister in their shared grief. Kathy answered as an Aggie with considerable pride, having attended Utah State University on her road to becoming an English Teacher. She worked as an Educator for twenty years, correcting grammar and spreading her love of the written word to her students at school and her children at home. Kathy responded as Estudiante when she lived in Mexico for a study abroad to study Spanish,
where she developed a deep love for the food, people and culture she found there.
Kathy took the name Glaittli on August 14, 1984 when she married Doug and added Wife, Aunt,
and Daughter-in-law all at once to her growing list of names.
Shortly thereafter, Kathy answered to the name Mom with a sense of protective love, quick to
defend her sons and daughters when needed. She was eager to raise her children with an understanding of their own roles as children of God. She acted as Guide and Example as she worked to raise her kids. She took pride in their successes and comforted them as she taught them to push through harder times. In later years, Kathy gladly took the name Grandma Ghee and Orange Grandma as her grandkids struggled to pronounce Glaittli and settled instead on easier names to get the attention of the grandma they adored.
Kathy also acted as Trainer and Master to the dogs and horses she loved, as Sister Glaittli to her church family (she especially prized the times spent as a librarian and as a nursery teacher), recently as Tutor to struggling grade school kids, as Consumer in her affection for Diet Coke, and as Friend to countless individuals.
Today Kathy still answers to all these names and more as we both grieve the loss and celebrate the life of our Wife, Mom, Sister, Grandma Gee, and Friend, Kathy Rockwood Glaittli.
Please join us for the viewing and funeral as we celebrate her life and say goodbye for now.
