Kent Stone Goodrich
On April 18th, our beloved husband, father, papa, son, brother, uncle and friend lost his courageous battle with stage IV anaplastic thyroid cancer. After his original diagnosis in 2022, he was given just nine months to live. However, through his strength, determination, and positive attitude he outlived that prognosis and lived his life to the fullest.
He was able to see two of his daughters get married, his two granddaughters be born, and even crossed off many items off his bucket list.
Kent was the youngest of seven brothers born to Bruce and Jean Goodrich on April 14th, 1969, in Salt Lake City, Utah.
Basketball and baseball were important to the Goodrich boys. Not many in the neighborhood didn’t hear about the Goodrich ball team and talk about how they dreaded playing them because they were hard to beat.
Kent met his sweetheart Julie while attending Olympus High School, where he graduated in 1987. After graduation, Kent spent two years serving a church mission in the Italy Catania Mission. The Italian people and food held a special place in his heart. He found himself back there a couple of times over the years, and it was like he had never left. He became a tour guide for those of us that traveled with him.
After returning home, he quickly reconnected with his high school sweetheart Julie, and they were married in the Salt Lake Temple in December 1990. He was an active member of The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints and served in many callings throughout his life.
Kent was highly intelligent and a great student of many subjects. He graduated from the University of Utah with a degree in Finance in 1994.
After graduation, he used his degree to begin his finance career in stock trading, gaining his Series 7 certification. His thirst for knowledge continued, and he found an opportunity in IT. Throughout his career as a network engineer, he was able to travel the world. Something he enjoyed and disliked in equal measure due to the time it took him away from his family.
Kent’s pride and joy were his four children-Lexi, Hanna, Ashlee, and Nik. He attended every sporting event, dance recital, and graduation for each of them.
Kent worked for different IT companies throughout his career; Affiliated Computer Systems, Mediconnect, RedSky Solutions, and Presidio. Throughout his life Kent made many lifelong friends and made an impact on those around him.
Kent had many passions in life. He was an avid outdoorsman and spent many weeks in Yellowstone fly fishing with his brothers. He loved sports and could often be found cheering on the Utes at Rice-Eccles every fall. He was excited to see Utah gain a professional hockey team when the Mammoth came a couple years ago.
Kent is survived by his wife Julie, children Lexi (David) Arnold, Hanna (Nicholas) Neria, Ashlee (Kody) Lilo, and Nikolas, granddaughters Brooklynn, Khloe, and Baby Girl Lilo, father Bruce, brothers Randy, Cary, Mark, and Brent, and his 39 nieces and nephews. He is preceded in death by his mother Jean, brothers Kelly and Craig, angel baby Arnold, and his mother and father-in-law Joyce and Lowell Walker.
The family would like to express their appreciation to the countless doctors, nurses, and nurses’ assistants at Huntsman Cancer Institute that helped Kent during his battle with cancer. They would especially like to thank Doctor Kathleen Kerrigan at Huntsman for her care of our dad and husband.
Funeral services will be held Monday, April 27th at 12:00pm at the Valley View 3rd Ward, 1925 East Gundersen Lane Holladay, Utah 84124.
