LaVeta Mangum Harvey Obituary (1916 - 2014)

Our beloved mother, grandmother, neighbor and friend passed away from natural causes on February 5, 2014 at the age of 97. She perfected the role of "angel on Earth" by the way she continually and selflessly served her family, neighbors and friends. LaVeta, the daughter of Montell Mangum and Lenora Tullis Mangum, was born March 26, 1916 in Huntington, Utah. She grew up with four siblings, a brother, Eccles (Monte), and three sisters: Lena (Brunson), Klover (Bates), and Leila (Bradford). She accomplished many things in her lifetime, having attended East High School and the University of Utah. She taught school at West High prior to her marriage to William Mack Harvey in the Salt Lake Temple. Five of LaVeta's finer accomplishments was being the mother of five children: two daughters, Judy (Don) Bleazard and Patty (Gene) Rosvall, and three sons, Mack, Richard and Kim (Beckie). She fulfilled a life of active service in the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints, being in the presidencies of the Primary and Young Women's organizations, as well as being a Relief Society president three different times. She was also a temple supervisor for the Jordan River Temple during both its open house and dedication. LaVeta moved with her husband's work to Colorado and Texas, as well as Utah. While in Texas, she was one of the hospital administrators for M.D. Anderson Hospital in Houston. Upon moving back to Salt Lake City, she became Director of Services Management at LDS Hospital and later became the administrator of the Bryner Clinic, where she worked until she retired. She was also a board member and officer of several regional, national and international medical group management associations. LaVeta enjoyed her membership in the International Society of Poets for several years, earning many prestigious awards. She is predeceased by her husband Bill; her son, Mack; her parents; and four siblings. She is survived by her four children; nine grandchildren; twenty great-grandchildren; and four great-great-grandchildren. Funeral arrangements are being handled by Jenkins-Soffe Mortuary, and interment will be at Wasatch Lawn Cemetery. Friends may call from 6:00 to 8:00 p.m. Monday, February 10, 2014 at Jenkins-Soffe Mortuary, 4760 S. State Street, and also from 10:30 to 11:15 a.m. on Tuesday, February 11, 2014 prior to the funeral, which will be held at 11:30 a.m. at the Murray 24th Ward, 755 E. Three Fountains Drive.
