SABRA LAVON ANDERSON HUNT, 88, our wonderful Mother and Grandmother, passed away on Tuesday, February 18, 2025 at her home in Murray, Utah. She finished her work and time on earth graciously and in peace.
LaVon was born on July 8, 1936 in Annabella, Utah the only child of Vera Davis and Ellwood Archie Anderson. She had a challenging childhood as work was hard to find and as a result they moved around quite a bit. She lived with her beloved grandparents, Annie Jessie and Archibald Anderson, in Monroe, Utah for several years while her mother was being treated for tuberculosis in Ogden. Later LaVon was the first case of polio in Salt Lake City and isolated from her family while she recovered. When LaVon was in junior high school, they moved to the Rose Park area and established their first permanent home. She graduated from West High School, where she met Valdon(Val) Hunt on a blind date. They were married August 30, 1954 in the Salt Lake Temple. They moved to Murray in 1961 where they raised their family of five children, Debra, David, Scott, John, and Suzanne. Mom and Dad really loved each other and each of us and gave us a very happy home.
Mom was a wonderful and gentle lady. While our Dad was an outgoing people person, Mom was more comfortable in the background. She had so many talents and gifts! She was a peacemaker, a great listener, very kind, so loving and a willing babysitter. She was so much fun to laugh with and enjoyed hearing about what was going on in our lives. She had a competitive streak and really liked to play cards and games. She was an avid reader. She loved to “go for a ride,” loved the fall season and its colors, burnt almond fudge ice cream, hot dogs, picnics and holidays and presents. We had epic Christmas Eve celebrations with our family every year and often thoughtful homemade gifts. Mom was a terrific seamstress, a quilter, accomplished knitter and crafter and had a booth at Quilted Bear for many years. She blessed us in so many ways, and was just the best mother and grandmother there ever could be. All of us were her favorites!
She was a lifelong and faithful member of The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints. LaVon enjoyed serving in many callings, which include serving in the primary as a teacher and counselor, visiting teacher and Relief Society counselor and homemaker many times. She was a wonderful support to our Dad as he provided for our family and served in the Church. She did many things to help provide for us, too. Since Dad worked for Safeway stores, he arranged for her to be a meat wrapper! She worked in various jobs to help support us in college and on missions.
In April of 2023, she was persuaded have her DNA tested. She was surprised to learn that she had a half-brother in Australia! We welcomed Andreas (Andy) Kunzel and his wife Nora to Utah for a visit in September of 2023. It was such a blessing to meet them!
LaVon was preceded in death by her dear husband Valdon Hunt, her parents Vera and Ellwood Anderson, son David Val Hunt, grandsons Timothy Val Hunt and Tony Roy Hunt, and grandson-in-law Eric Wiseman. She is survived by her children: Debra (Stewart Martinsen), Julie Littleford Hunt, Scott Hunt, Tanya Waagen Hunt, John (Rebecca Beecroft) Hunt, and Suzanne (Shawn) Jacobs, 16 grandchildren, 31 great-grandchildren with one on the way, brother Andy (Nora) Kunzel and brother-in-law Ronald Lee Hunt (Penny).
