Bountiful, Utah
LaVorda “Gram” Workman Street, 98, passed away peacefully on Sept. 10, 2022, at her daughter’s home in Bountiful, Utah. LaVorda was born on Oct. 16, 1923, in Park City, Utah, to her parents Rachel Young Workman Hudson and Clifford Workman. LaVorda was the fourth of nine children and spent her early years playing in the hills surrounding Park City with her siblings.
In 1943, LaVorda married the love of her life, Clifford W. Street. They were happily married for almost 45 years until Cliff passed away in 1988. In 1955, they welcomed their beloved daughter, Etta ReNae Wardle.
LaVorda was known for her kindness and amazing work ethic. She and Cliff co-owned the Street Conoco service station in Park City with Cliff’s brother, and LaVorda helped with everything from keeping the books to servicing the cars and pumping gas. She had many close friends throughout Park City, Kamas and Heber and was instrumental in the lives of her nieces and nephews.
After retiring, Cliff and LaVorda moved to a home in Millcreek, where they made many new friends. They were skilled craftsmen and helped renovate ReNae and their son-in-law Dennis’s home and create beautiful stained-glass artwork for the windows. After Cliff’s passing, she moved closer to spend more time with her two grandchildren and help with the family’s car business, waking early in the morning to help shovel snow and clean cars well into her 80s. She and Dennis had a special friendship, and she referred to him as her “son” while Dennis called her “his best friend.” She was able to travel with ReNae, Dennis and their children to many destinations in the U.S. and Canada. A few special memories include watching the sunrise at the top of Haleakala, riding in a helicopter over Kauai and stealing the show onboard a cruise ship with her sister, Fawn. She moved to Bountiful in her mid-80s and spent the last eight years in Dennis and ReNae’s home, making dinners, visiting with friends and family, and mowing the lawn whenever she could get away with it.
LaVorda was blessed with five great-grandchildren, who adored their “Grammy” and loved to spend time cuddling, reading and listening to her tell stories and play the harmonica. She was optimistic and loving until the very end and made a special debut on KSL News in April singing songs from her childhood. She is survived by her daughter, ReNae Wardle and son-in-law Dennis; granddaughter Lynze Lenio, her husband Matt and their children, Kate and Luke; and her grandson, Matthew Wardle, his wife Cori and their children Summer, Parx and Skylee. A special note of thanks to her niece Elma Rae Schear and grandnephew Quinn Schear, who provided her with loving care and company, and hospice nurses Sydney, Shannon and Ashley for their compassion and kindness.
A viewing will be held from 5 to 7 p.m. on Wednesday, Sept. 14, at the LDS Tabernacle, 55 S. Main Street in Bountiful. A funeral service will be held at 11 a.m. on Thursday, Sept. 15, with a viewing before the service from 10 to 10:45 a.m. at the same address.
