Lawrence "Mac" McNeill, loving husband, father, grandfather, great-grandfather, brother, and friend, passed peacefully on April 11, 2023 at Copper Creek Senior Living in South Jordan, Utah.\n\nHe was born September 23, 1934 in Salt Lake City, Utah to Lawrence A. McNeill and Ione Hanson McNeill - the oldest of six children. He served in the United States Navy during the Korean War and was later honorably discharged. Mac chose to serve in the Navy so he didn’t have to wear a tie. Mac married Vaunile Anderson on May 16, 1958 in the Salt Lake City temple. He was raised in Salt Lake City, Utah then lived in Sandy, Utah with his family until moving into a care facility in 2019. \n\nHe retired from Hill Air Force Base where he was a manager of the Precision Measurement Equipment Laboratory (PEML) division working on F-16 military airplanes. Mac also worked at the University of Utah where he started ushering for basketball games at the old Field House, eventually working at the Special Events Center, Rice Eccles Football Field, Kingsbury Hall, and Pioneer Memorial Theatre where he enjoyed socializing and made many life-long friends. Mac spent much of his time outdoors with family and friends hunting, fishing, and camping; many special memories were built on these outings. He was involved in his community and enjoyed working with the youth. He served in the youth programs for his church and managed many baseball teams. He was President of American Legion Baseball where he worked tirelessly to make the program better each year. He was a faithful member of The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter Day Saints where he served in many capacities. He was proud of worthily holding a temple recommend at his passing which allowed him to attend the Oquirrh Mountain Temple just days before.\n\nMac is survived by his children - Karie Woodforde, Ron (Chris) McNeill, Doug (Liz) McNeill, eight grandchildren and eight great-grandchildren, his sisters Vicki (Bob) Nelson and Pam (Phil) Krum, and his brother Lynn McNeill. He is preceded in death by his parents, his loving wife, Vaunile, and his sisters Marilyn (Al) Meisel and Joanne (Bryce) Hansen, and Sister-in-law Linda McNeill\n\nThe family would like to sincerely thank all those who helped with Mac's care over the years. A special thanks to A-Plus Home Health and Hospice and everyone at Copper Creek Senior Living who enhanced his life these last four months.\n\nA viewing will be held Monday, April 17, 2023 from 6:00 pm - 8:00 pm at Jenkins-Soffe Funeral Home, 1007 W. South Jordan Parkway, South Jordan, Utah. Funeral services will be held Tuesday, April 18, 2023 at Jenkins-Soffe Funeral Home at 11:00 am with an additional viewing prior to the services at 10:00 am - 10:45 am.
