Leon Burns Pitt, our beloved father, grandfather, great-grandfather and brother, passed away peacefully on January 8, 2012 in Salt Lake City, UT. He was 83 years old.\n\nLeon was born October 5, 1928 in Gridley, California to James Melvin and Sarah Estella Hall Pitt and married his sweetheart Beverly Jordan on October 12, 1947 in Salt Lake City. Their marriage was later solemnized in the Salt Lake Temple. They were happily married for 62 years before she passed away on March 31, 2010. Leon was an active member of the LDS church and served in many church callings, including Bishop and Stake High Councilor.\n\nLeon worked in the freight business for most of his adult life; at IML Freight until 1984, and then for Overnite Transportation until his retirement. He was an avid reader, particularly fond of Louis L’Amour westerns, he enjoyed gardening, “puttering around” in his work shop, and watching sports—especially BYU—on TV. He had an uncommon ability to make friends and to remember the friendships he had made. You were only a stranger once to Leon.\n\nHe is survived by his three sons and one daughter: Brent (Stella) Pitt, Greg (Kathy) Pitt, Julie (Doug) Myler, David Pitt; four brothers: Paul (Mary) Pitt, Warren (Geri) Pitt, Harold (Deloa) Pitt, Ed (Kathy) Pitt; three sisters: Hazel Little, Lola Mae Litster, Colleen Preece; 12 grandchildren; and 13 great-grandchildren (with one more expected soon). He was preceded in death by his wife; parents; six brothers: Don Pitt, Lyall Pitt, David E. Pitt, Daly Pitt, Alvin Keith Pitt, Thomas Daly; and two sisters: Frances Southam and Maurine Streuling.\n\nThe family wishes to express sincere thanks to the health care professionals at Legacy Village in Taylorsville, and at The Residence of Care Source for their kind and thoughtful care and concern during Leon’s last weeks and months.\n\nFuneral services will be held on Thursday, January 12 at 11:00 am at the Riverside 1st Ward, 5425 S Allendale Dr. (600 W.), Murray, UT. Family and friends may call on Wednesday, January 11 from 6:00-8:00 p.m. at Jenkins-Soffe Mortuary, 4760 S State St., Murray, UT and one hour prior to the funeral service at the church. Interment will be at Murray City Cemetery.
