“Loving Husband & Father”
Letane Mika Fonoti was called home to his Heavenly Father on June 17, 2008. He was born on May 11, 1934 in Siumu, Upolu, Samoa to Valila Fasi Saimasina and Mika Sofani Fonoti.
He grew up in American Samoa where he became a member of the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter Day Saints. He served an LDS mission to the Samoan Mission. At the age of 32 he arrived to a cold Utah winter wearing only summer clothes and sandals. Throughout his life he was happy to serve in many church callings. Some of his favorites were the many years he served as a Scout Master and Salt Lake Temple Worker.
He attended Ricks College, Brigham Young University and Weber State University. He married Laura Davenport and together they had three children. They were later divorced. In 1973 he married Laura Thompson and together they had two children. They were later divorced. On September 13, 1996 he married his sweet friend Sharie Lyn Woolsey, who cared for and protected him for all his remaining years.
Dad had a full life devoted to his faith. He loved music and loved to dance. He was always happy to sing a silly song or tell a story about his time spent in Samoa causing trouble with his “brothers”. He was always willing to help those in need and always tried to learn from his mistakes so he could pass his knowledge to his family and friends.
We will miss his bad jokes, broken English and contagious smile.
He is survived by his wife Sharie; three sons and two daughters, Letane Mika Fonoti Jr., Layton; Daniel Fredrick Fonoti (Jamie), Ogden; Julie Ann Fonoti, Ogden; Stephanie Jean Fonoti Hall, Clearfield, and Toniu Ole Vaiavea Fonoti, Clearfield; two step-sons and one step-daughter; 17 grandchildren; two sisters, Ponaivao Unutoa, Roy; and Moevanu Toa, Layton. He was preceded in death by his parents and two brothers, Mika and Ualapa.
Funeral services will be on Wednesday, June 25, 2008 at 12:00 pm at the Jordan North 5th Ward chapel, 4100 S Bangerter Hwy, WVC.
