Letitia Jean Roberts, 73, Born August 9, 1937 in Jamaica, Long Island, the seventh child of Robert Daniel and Irene Elizabeth Martin. She was the joy of her four sisters and two brothers. Jean was the "baby doll' to her youngest sister and the princess to be protected by her two brothers. When Jean's oldest sister, Clara, graduated from Hunter College, Jean was an infant. The next youngest sister, Frances stayed home from the graduation to babysit. Jean is survived by her sister Frances and twelve nieces and nephews. Her son Mark Roberts preceded her in death.
After Jean finished her education in New York, she joined the Department of Labor and worked in the Wage Hour Division. It required her to travel extensively, investigating employer and employee relations. She traveled to Salt Lake City frequently and when the opportunity presented itself, she accepted a position with the Dept. of Labor in Salt Lake City.
Curious as to what people in the LDS Church were like and what they believed, since she would be working with them, she asked the missionaries to come and teach her. Little did she know that she would very soon be a member of the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints. She has been an active and faithful member for 33 years and has loved the Gospel and been a Gospel scholar. Those of us who attended classes with her loved to hear her answers to the questions asked by the teachers. She was a special teacher and friend.
Funeral services will be held Tuesday, December 28th at 11:00 a.m. at the Church located at 4220 South Jeannine Drive (420 East), with a Viewing will be from 9:45 to 10:45 a.m.
Family and friends would like to express their appreciation to Woodland Care and Hillside Rehab. Ctr. for their tender care and service.
