Lily Bernice Smith

Our beloved wife, mother and grandmother, Lily Bernice Smith passed away peacefully on Saturday, September 14, 2024, in Layton Utah with her family by her side. She was 86 years old.

Bernice was born Lily Bernice Beagley in Hunter, Utah on August 1, 1938, to Grant Beagley and Lily V. Losser. She was the second oldest of four siblings. Bernice attended Cyprus High School in Magna, Utah where she was known as a talented and graceful swimmer. After graduating from high school in 1956, she met and later married Sherman Frank Smith on August 5, 1959.

Bernice lived with her family in the communities of Hunter, Granger, and Taylorsville, Utah until 1977 when she and her family moved to Kaysville, in Davis County, Utah. She would live in Davis County for the remainder of her life.

Bernice excelled as a wife, mother, and homemaker to her family. She was a very talented cook and always spoiled her family with wonderful meals throughout her life. Bernice was a very hard worker and held several jobs during her life including the University Club, Hotel Utah, J.C. Penny’s, and Oakridge Country Club. She later worked for the Davis County School District in the school lunch program at multiple schools for 23 years, where she made rewarding lifelong friendships. Due to her hard work, kindness, and outgoing personality, Bernice was very popular with both school district staff and students.

Bernice loved to travel and visited many exciting places during her life both within the U.S. and Europe. Her greatest happiness, however, came from her family. She dearly loved her children and grandchildren and took great joy in watching them grow; she was exceedingly proud of them and always showed deep concern for their well-being – regardless of the struggles she was experiencing. Bernice was also fortunate to have many lifelong friends. She was truly a kind and selfless woman. We will greatly miss her contagious smile, kindness, and loving demeanor. Bernice was a lifelong member of the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-Day Saints.

Bernice is survived by her husband, Sherman Smith; sons Martin Smith and Steven Smith (Andrea); daughter Kammy Green (Blake); grandchildren Kristopher Smith, Steven Tucker Smith, Mandalyn Green, and Makenzie Green; great grandchildren London Smith, Pierson Smith, and Jack Smith; brother David Beagley (Bonnie), sister Bonnie Harward (Stan). Bernice is preceded in death by her parents and older brother, Grant L. Beagley.

A graveside service will be held on Monday, September 23, 2024, at 12:00 pm at Valley View Memorial Park, 4335 West 4100 South, West Valley City, UT.
