Our beloved wife, mother, grandmother, great-grandmother and friend Linda Bollschweiler Badovinatz, age 67, lost her battle with pancreatic cancer on Wednesday May 25. She was surrounded by many family and friends as she peacefully slipped away into the loving arms of those who had gone before her.
Linda Badovinatz was born August 20, 1948 in Salt Lake City, Utah to Arlene and Charles Bollschweiler.
Linda grew up in a loving family, where she was the 6th of 7 children and as the baby girl of the family she was watched over and beloved by all of her siblings. Linda grew up attending school in Murray, Utah and graduated from Murray High School in 1966. Linda married her high school sweetheart Raymond Edward Badovinatz on March 27, 1967 in Murray Utah and then moved to Jacksonville, Florida shortly after Ray was stationed there in the United States Navy. Ray and Linda started their family while in Florida when they welcomed their eldest son, Ray Jr. into the world. In 1969 the 3 of them moved back to Utah where they lived in Murray and then Taylorsville, meanwhile adding 3 more loving children to their family. Brynn, Tyson and Mindy.
Linda and Ray shared many adventures in their 49 years together. In 1983 Ray and Linda started the Taylorsville Girls Bonnetball league. This was a large part of Linda's life and something she was very passionate about. Although they only ran the league for its first 3 seasons, it is still running to this day, 33 years later. Something Linda is very proud of. For most of the 80s, Ray and Linda were members of a bowling league. You could find them most Friday nights at Bonwood Bowl having a blast with their league-mates and Linda perfecting her strike. In the mid-90s Ray and Linda, along with sister and brother-in-law Gloria and Kelly Spriggs, joined the Sunday Drivers golf league. Linda wasn't the best golfer, but that didn't matter to her. What mattered was getting out in the beautiful weather and enjoying some cocktails and many laughs with so many good people. This golf league ended up producing many hilarious memories and stories that Linda loved to share and tell to family and friends. Linda was an outdoorsy gal that enjoyed fishing, hunting and camping with her family. But what she enjoyed most of all was a starry night and a real good campfire to sit around to roast hot dogs.
Linda's very first job was working the soda fountain at the old Murray Pharmacy on State Street. Throughout her life, she held numerous office positions and spent 7 years in retail when she was operations manager for Shopko. In 2000 Ray and Linda embarked on a new and exciting adventure when they purchased The Amarillo Club in South Salt Lake. As stressful as it was to own a club in Utah, Ray and Linda did it well and were respected by all those who both worked for them and who patronized their establishment. They threw many fun parties and organized exciting golf tournaments for their patrons, making many great memories and friends in the process.
Although Linda had many great memories and fun throughout her life, nothing compared to how much she absolutely loved and enjoyed her trips to Kauai, Hawaii. Her brother David and sister-in-law Brynn first introduced her to Kauai in 2004. This would be the first of 6 Kauai trips for Linda. The beauty of Kauai was always something that Linda loved and looked forward to. She could often be found down by the water looking at her sea turtles, relaxing on Brennecke Beach or watching out for humpback whales. She regretted that she never got to go back to Kauai during her life, but she will always be free to visit her favorite place now for all eternity.
Linda was such a loving and tender mother to her 4 children. She was very proud of each one of them and was a very big influence in all of their lives. The greatest gift that they gave her was her 8 grandchildren and 1 great-grandson. Linda always enjoyed doing anything that involved spending time with her family and her greatest memories where all the vacations, outings, dinners and get-togethers she shared with all of them. Nothing made her happier than to be surrounded by those she loved and cherished the most. As a family, we were able to plan one last trip to Las Vegas shortly before Linda passed. We took this time to make more great memories, share many laughs and give Linda a final opportunity to be surrounded by close friends and her family all together in one place. Linda was so happy during this trip and was so happy to be able to go.
Special thanks to all of the amazing and skilled doctors and nurses at University of Utah Hospital and Huntsman Cancer Hospital that cared for Linda during this difficult battle. Also a heartfelt thanks to the wonderful staff at Inspiration Hospice that showed Linda such respect and tender care during her final months.
A very special thanks to Children and the Earth Foundation and The Dream Foundation for all their generosity in helping to make beautiful final memories for Linda and her family.
Linda is survived by her 4 children; Raymond Badovinatz Jr., Brynn DeLaCruz (Dennis), Tyson Badovinatz (Danyelle) and Mindy Navarrete (Luis), 8 grandchildren; Ryan (Aubree), Jordan, Sydney, Averrey, Daicia, Tayvin, Emery, Mia Linda and 1 great-grandchild; Bryson. Linda was preceded in death by her parents, and two brothers.
