In Loving Memory of Loren Roger Stireman
November 5, 1929 – September 7, 2026
Our dad, husband, brother, uncle, grandfather, great-grandfather, and friend, Loren Roger Stireman, passed away peacefully on September 7th, surrounded by loved ones and memories of a life well lived.
Up until just a few days before his passing, Dad continued to enjoy the things that brought him the most happiness: weekly breakfasts with family, playing cribbage with his nieces and nephews, and enjoying dominoes and bingo with his friends at Abbington. A few years ago, Roger made Abbington his home and there he met a group of wonderful residence, along with amazing caregivers and staff, that quickly became his close friends. He loved being with people, sharing stories, laughing, and making connections. Family and friendship were at the heart of who he was.
Roger was born on November 5, 1929, in Superior, Wisconsin. He was the youngest of eleven children and grew up on a modest farm. He loved telling stories about what it was like growing up with ten siblings and the adventures and challenges that came with farm life.
Roger lost both of his parents when he was a young boy. He went on to live with his older sister Dallas and her family, relocating to Provo Utah. Roger enjoyed life and friends there, skiing, boating and golfing…ultimately graduating from Provo High School in 1947.
During the Korean War, Roger joined the United States Air Force. Military service was especially meaningful to him. All four of his older brothers had served in World War II. Service, commitment, and pride in his country remained important parts of his life.
In early 1958, Roger met the love of his life, Jacqueline Fae Engelman. Before long, they married, began their family and were blessed with three children: Marci, Matt, and Mikan.
Roger and Jacque shared a very special love. They were devoted to each other and built a life centered around their family. Their years together were filled with love, laughter, family adventures, and the everyday moments that become the memories we treasure most. Roger was so very proud of Jacque and deeply loved her.
In 1968, Roger completed his schooling as an aircraft electrician and moved his family to Layton, Utah, where he began working at Hill Air Force Base. He dedicated 24 years to his work there before retiring. When Jacque retired a few years later, they became snowbirds, spending their winters together in Mesa, Arizona.
Sadly, Jacque passed away in 2008. Losing her was one of the greatest losses of Roger’s life. He carried his love for her with him in the years that followed and cherished the life and family they had built together.
Roger was a wonderful father. He loved his children deeply and was proud of the people they became. He treasured the time he spent with them and remained an important part of their lives through the years.
He was equally proud of his grandchildren and great grandchildren. Spending time with them brought him tremendous joy.
Roger was a man of many talents and interests. He was an award-winning artist and carver, a sports enthusiast, a notable skier, and an avid golfer.
He also had lifelong friends across the country and made a special effort to stay in close touch with them. Roger had an incredible memory and never seemed to forget the people who had been important in his life.
His favorite pastime was simply being with friends and family. He loved gathering around the table, visiting, laughing, and sharing memories. He was a great storyteller, and his stories will continue to be part of our family for generations to come.
But more than anything, Roger will be remembered for his kind soul and his true heartfelt way of making others feel seen and special in his presence.
Roger leaves behind family and countless friends who were fortunate enough to know and love him. His life spanned nearly a century, and his legacy will live on through all those whose lives he touched.
Rest in Peace our dear Gpops.
