Lura Mae Harmon Obituary (1937 - 2015)

Our loving friend, wife, mother, grandmother, and "Angel of Love" returned home to join her parents in Heaven. Lura was born to Charles Merrill and Willomene Spiva in Longview, Texas. She soared through life spreading unconditional love by opening her wings in service and embracing her flock. In 1960, Lura married Darwin E. Harmon in the Salt Lake Temple and raised three beautiful daughters followed by nine gifted grandchildren. The focus of Lura's life was to nurture and care for her offspring. She had enough love in her heart to adopt the friends of her grandchildren and submersed herself into everyone's lives. Grandma was taxi cab driver to and from dance and piano lessons, cheerleading and football, and refueled her grandkids by treating them to McDonalds' burgers and Arctic Circle ice cream cones. Family had no need for YouTube because Grandma's sharp mind was the best "how to" resource. She gave worldwide live updates, traffic reports, cooking tips, and had the answer for everything. Grandma watched sports so she could relate with her grandsons, and she sent them a text joke of the day to keep them laughing. Mom had a passion for sewing and brought beauty to her family by creating wedding dresses, prom dresses, mending a favorite pair of holey jeans, hemming and adjusting new clothes to fit just right to showcase her loved ones. Lura tied a silky cozy quilt for each family member to wrap her eternal love around us and remind us that her legacy of love is still with us. Survived by her husband; children, Melinda Wankier (Channing), Jill Rasmussen, Tara Marx (Dustin); nine grandchildren; and sister, Charlotte Hellewell (George). A viewing will be held Friday, April 10, 2015, from 6-8 p.m. at Jenkins-Soffe Mortuary, 4760 S. State Street, Murray. Graveside services will be held Saturday, April 11, 2015, at 11 a.m. at Redwood Memorial Estates Cemetery, 6500 S. Redwood Road.
