Lydia Vandenberg Obituary (1948 - 2024)

Lydia Caroline Van den Berg age 76, passed away March 18th, 2024. Born January 12th, 1948 to Myron Jonathan Westerman and Arvilla Katie Brady. She married her husband, Francis H Vandenberg October 18th, 1968 and later sealed in the Salt Lake Temple September 7th, 1971. Together they had 5 children and 6 grandchildren. She grew up in the Poplar Grove area. Attended West High, class of 66. She started working in dietary at LDS hospital where she met Francis. After she married, she followed Francis to California and Texas while he served in the Navy. Once they returned to Utah, they settled first in Salt Lake City, then West Jordan, and finally in South Jordan. She spent her last year living with her daughter in Herriman. She was an avid reader, enjoyed jig saw puzzles, and word searches. She enjoyed traveling with her husband and family. Many wonderful memories were made camping at East Canyon Resort and going to St George. She also enjoyed going with her sister and friends to the South Jordan Senior Center for lunch and activities. She was a Member of The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints, serving in various roles over the years. Her favorite callings were cub scouts and nursery. She could be found every Sunday diligently studying her Come Follow Me manual and watching this week’s episode of Come Follow Up and The Chosen. Lydia thrived at being thrifty and managing the family finances. She prided herself in saving enough money that Francis could retire early. Survived by her children David (Denise) Vandenberg of West Jordan; Karen (Jeff) Davis of Herriman; Matthew (Nicole) Vandenberg of Riverton; Jonathan (Natalie) Vandenberg of Herriman. Her grandchildren Alyssa, Tyler, Grace, Jack, Adelaide, and Sloan. Her brother Frank Westerman (Marlene); Sister Katherine Inkley. Preceded in death by her husband, Francis Vandenberg; Son, Robert Vandenberg. A private family funeral will be held. Interment South Jordan City Cemetery.
