Lynn D. Bissell
1931 – 2026
Lynn D. Bissell peacefully returned to his Heavenly Father on Sunday, September 27, 2026. He was born on January 5, 1931, to Maurice J. Bissell and Flora Ruth Hauser Bissell in Payson, Utah. He attended Peteetneet Grade School and graduated from Payson Jr. High, Payson High, and Payson LDS Seminary, and he attended Stevens-Henager College.
Lynn filled a full-time mission for The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints to Tahiti. He learned to speak Tahitian, made many good friends, and had many experiences he treasured throughout his life.
Lynn married the love of his life, Karma Burton, in the Salt Lake City Temple on February 16, 1956. He was very proud to be a member of The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints and served faithfully in his many callings in several bishoprics, mutual, and Sunday School. He especially loved his time as a Seminary teacher while living in Worland, Wyoming, where he taught 9th-12th graders.
Lynn sang in a Barbershop quartet for several years, performing in several cities. He loved to sing and was always a part of the Ward Choir until he started losing his hearing and couldn’t hear the music.
His favorite pastimes were golf, watching any BYU sporting event, working in his vegetable and flower gardens, and making wooden yard crafts for his children, grandchildren, and great-grandchildren. Most of all, he loved spending time with his family – camping, fishing, hunting, hiking, boating, watching his children, grandchildren, and great-grandchildren play sports, and playing board games.
He is survived by his sister, Barbara (Harry) Collard; daughters, Linda (Steve) McComb and Brenda (Michael) Cox; grandchildren, Taylor (Tammy), Garrett (Andi), Kenzie (Jared), Danielle (Eric), Mallory (Trevor), Bailey, Colton, and Kaiden; and great-grandchildren, Wesley, Paetyn, Lyncoln, Rylee, Breelyn, Austin, Braxton, Mason, Quinton, Ainzlee, Jaxon, Houston, Cooper, Dylan, and Adelynn.
He was preceded in death by his parents; wife, Karma, of 70 years; brother, John Bissell; and sisters, Ziska (Vaur) Waters, Wilda (Kenneth) Hone, Rae (Wendell) Sheffield, Edna (Everett) Davis, JoAnn (Norman) Steele, Wanda (Gene) Jex, and Anna (Roy) Andersen.
His life will be celebrated with a viewing on Sunday, October 4, 2026 from 5:00 to 7:00 p.m. at Jenkins-Soffe Mortuary, 4760 South State Street in Murray. Funeral services will be held on Monday, October 5, 2026 beginning at 11:00 a.m., with a viewing from 10:00 to 10:45 a.m. at the LDS church house at 5750 South Nena Way in Murray. He will be buried next to his wife in the Larkin Sunset Gardens Cemetery, 10600 South 1700 East in Sandy.
