At the age of 96, on February 29, 2016, Mack chose to close the books on his life and leap into Heaven. Born in St. Louis, Missouri, on July 31, 1919 to his parents, George Hudson and Hazel Carmack Reed, he spent most of his years living in El Paso, Texas. There he met and married his sweetheart, Dale Elizabeth Rogers, spending 73 years with her surrounded by love.
His life was characterized by a strong work ethic, high moral values, modesty and dignity, and love for his family. Growing up in the Great Depression, he was always careful and frugal with his finances. Serving his country during World War II as a Master Sergeant in the Army Air Force, he became determined and patriotic. Guiding his children, he was willing to provide opportunities for learning through participation in Boy Scouts, Girl Scouts, music, religion, and sports. As CEO of HLS Distributing, he was known to be competent, intelligent, and honest. A staunch believer in the value of education, he supported his wife, children and grandchildren in their quest for college diplomas. He was a lifelong member of the First Baptist Church in El Paso and believed that he would spend eternity with his Lord and Savior.
Mack loved eating Mexican food, doing spreadsheets on the computer, traveling, cheering for the Dallas Cowboys, fishing by a gentle stream, fiddling around on "projects", and watching Jeopardy with his wife.
Survived by his wife, Dale Elizabeth; children, Virgil (Sherry) Reed and Barbara Pearce Holdcroft; grandchildren, Carey (Mike) Pellock, Preston (Charise) Pearce, Eric Reed and Stephanie Reed; great-grandchildren, Taylor, Christopher, Miya, Sophia Pearce and Reed Pellock.
Our thanks to the staff and residents of Legacy Retirement Residence and Aspire Hospice Care for their love and caring these past few years.
