Margene Terry Wiest Obituary (1934 - 2013)

Margene Terry Wiest, 78, a forever loving mother, wife, fun-to-be-around family member, friend and neighbor left us May 22, 2013 (from stroke related causes), but her indomitable spirit remains. Margene was born September 25, 1934 to LaGrand Redell and Clara Stringfellow Terry on their kitchen table. Her birthplace was symbolic of the genuine and unselfish nature by which she lived—being grateful for, and always acknowledging the source of her many blessings. Marge was the fifth of six children. Her childhood was a happy time which she often reflected upon. She felt greatly blessed to have been reared and lived her life in places where neighborhoods, family and friends, were meaningful to her. Marge attended McKinley, Lincoln Jr. and South High School (1952), and briefly at BYU, after which she worked at the Federal Reserve Bank in Salt Lake City until she became a Mom, a responsibility she took most seriously, as she never again worked outside the home. She was married and sealed by Spencer W. Kimball to her high school sweetheart and forever companion, Don S. Wiest, in the Salt Lake Temple on September 17, 1953. She was at once happy, caring, genuine and optimistic, and lived a fun-loving and cheerful life, which made her a joy to be with. Years ago a neighbor wrote a letter to Dan Valentine, a columnist for a local newspaper, nominating Marge to receive his "Valentine of the Day" award for being a kind and thoughtful neighbor. Her picture and story soon appeared in one of his ensuing columns. Marge dearly loved teaching children, and developed unique visual aids to help those she taught in Sunday School and Primary to love their Savior. She loved cooking, bottling fruits and jam and making desserts. She loved food! And especially so when eaten with family and friends next to a creek flowing down Millcreek or Big Cottonwood canyons. Marge served as a Primary and Relief Society President. She enjoyed visiting teaching, and was involved for many years in helping provide Ward Relief Society reports. Marge will be appreciated for her heartfelt genealogy work. She had a strong desire to serve where needed, but her life's passion was to be both a caring mother and a loving and supportive wife (which indeed she was). Marge loved to sing, and was a member of the Allegro Chorus for many years. She loved to travel, and then create unique picture albums, resulting from visiting over 30 foreign countries and most states. Marge is survived by her husband, her children, Jeff (Ann), Collette (Steve) Johnson, Wendy (Kerry) Barlow, Nathan (Tami); 15 grandchildren, 24 great-grandchildren; sisters, Elise Bowers, Glenis (Duane) Welling, JaNee (Lyle) Spencer; and from both family sides many loving nieces, nephews and cousins. Preceding her in death were two still-borns, brothers, Vaughn and Doug Terry (and their wives, Peggy and Corrie). Celebrate Margene's life with us at her funeral, 11 a.m. on Monday, June 3, 2013 at the Cottonwood Acres Ward, 981 Revere Circle (just above 9th East and North of 56th South). Her viewings will be held Sunday, June 2nd, 5-7 p.m. at the Jenkins-Soffe Mortuary, 4790 South State, Murray, UT and Monday 9-10:30 a.m. prior to services at the church.
