A Mothers Love
Mom was born February 15, 1918, in Menan, Idaho, to Justin Monroe Green and Rachel Julina Ballentyne, the third of seven children. Education was always important to Mom. She was intelligent and articulate. Mom graduated Valedictorian from Logan High School.
After high school she went to work as a waitress to earn money for college. It was during that time she met the love of her life, our Dad, (Mom called Dad "Johnny") and that put her plans for college on hold. Dad was singing with a band and ask a friend "who is that beautiful girl in the blue dress". It was our Mom. They dated for several months and fell deeply in love and eventually eloped to Preston, Idaho in 1938. The marriage was later solemnized in the Logan Temple. Mom and Dad lived in Logan and Rock Springs, they eventually settled in Cottonwood where they bought a parcel of land and built their first home where they raised their seven daughters and one son.
Mom had a beautiful alto voice and loved to sing with Dad. She was so very proud of her Johnny. He sang in the Tabernacle Choir for many years before they sold their home in Cottonwood and moved to Boise in 1968. In 1981, they served an LDS mission to Tampa, Florida, then returned to Salt Lake in 1986 and bought their final home.
Mom was an active and devout member of the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter Day Saints. Mom had a tender heart and a sweet spirit. She was loving and gracious, a great listener and never judgmental. Our Mom had a heart of gold. Her greatest gifts were her intellect, her wisdom, her character, her generosity, and unconditional love. Mom's greatest joy was her love of family. Mom was incredibly beautiful, both physically and spiritually, and had an amazing sense of humor. Mom remembered every birthday. The kids, grandkids, and great grandkids will miss her birthday cards with $2 bills tucked inside.
Mom loved the Gospel of Jesus Christ. Her character was molded by her love and devotion for her Heavenly Father and the promise of eternal salvation. Her Patriarchal Blessing promised that if she lived a righteous and faithful life, she would be The Mother of a Nation.
Mom left this world the way she lived her life, with grace and dignity. Surviving are her seven daughters and husbands; Marilyn (Vaughn) Butler, Annette Eckerstrom, Joanie Bingham, Judy (Rob) Peterson, Kathy (Jerry) Dugdale, Colleen (Dennis) Walker, Diane (Russ) Watts; her sister, Betty Rogers; and brother, Jay Green. Mom also leaves 28 grandkids, 65 great grandkids, and 12 great-great grandkids. She was preceded by our Dad; our brother, Craig; sons-in-law, Mel Eckerstrom, Caray Lindquist; and grandson, Michael Chase; her parents; sisters, Edith, Nona, Nina and Wilma.
