Mary June Flowers Flynn Obituary (1924 - 2016)

"Life is an Adventure!" was the philosophy of Mary June Flowers Flynn, who epitomized optimism and kindness. She passed away peacefully on June 11, 2016, two days shy of her 92nd birthday. The oldest of eight girls born to Leslie Elmer and Maria Tentia Holmgren Flowers, June grew up in Salt Lake City and remained close to her sisters her entire life. Even as they all married and had children and grandchildren, they continued to foster strong family ties through Flowers Family Reunions as well as gathering frequently on important important occasions. June married Richard Flynn on June 20th 1942 and they had five children. They lived in the Salt Lake area until moving to Murray where they lived for over 50 years. Dick and June dedicated themselves to building a great family, creating lifelong traditions and they succeeded. They made it a point to participate in all the important events in the lives of their children, grandchildren and great grandchildren, attending performances, athletic events, graduations, blessings, baptisms, farewells and countless other activities, big and small. June took great joy in the adventures that life has to offer, and loved being with her family, she was packed and ready to go whether it be jumping in the airplane for a quick trip to wherever her husband decided to go such as Salt Lake City, St. George, Lake Powell, or visiting one the many locations where her family has come to reside. June and Dick created a home at Lakeside Drive that became a "gathering place" for an extensive network of family and friends spanning many generations. June's front and back doors were always open to visitors who could stop by for any amount of time – whether to chat, steal cookies from the cookie jar, help with the barbecue and other food, jump on the trampoline, lounge around, or consume leftovers from earlier meals. The home that June created was idyllic for her family, because it was a place of comfort, safety, and joy (and great food). June loved The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-Day Saints and took to heart its teaching that families are important and eternal. She fulfilled a life-long goal to go through the temple exactly one week prior to the passing of her eldest daughter, Colleen. What a blessing to be together for this special occasion. "Grandma June" entered this life in June, left it in June, and exuded many of the attributes associated with springtime – warmth, joy, brightness and sunshine. She will be dearly missed by friends and family. She is predeceased by her husband Dick, her daughter Colleen (Brice) Sorenson, her son-in-law Joseph Rodriguez, and her sisters Lois and Donna. She is survived by four children, Dennis (Johanna) Flynn, Cortney (Jeannie) Flynn, Wendy Rodriguez, and Tracy (Sandy) Jensen. She also leaves behind 20 grandchildren and their spouses, and 38 great grandchildren. She will also be missed by her sisters, nieces, nephews, and many grand-nieces and grand-nephews who loved and adored her. Funeral services will be held Friday, June 17th at noon with a viewing at 11:00 am at the LDS Church located at 5235 S. Wesley Rd (approximately 1100 East), SLC, UT 84117. A viewing will take place June 16th from 6:00 to 8:00 pm at Jenkins-Soffe Mortuary, 4760 S State St, Murray, UT. Interment will be at the Murray City Cemetery following the funeral.
