Mel was borne in Ely, Nevada and shortly after, his family moved to Salt Lake County. He graduated from Jordan High school. He had a love for horses, fishing, hunting and all outdoor activities. He enlisted in the Army and served in the Korean War from 1950 to 1952. When he returned home from the war, he met the love of his life. After his years of service and marriage he was employed by Kennicott Copper, where he worked there until his retirement.
His accomplishments throughout his life are many. One of his most cherished memories was to share the story of when he joined the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter Saints, while he was in basic training in Kansas. He enjoyed being of service in many callings in the church. Our family will always be grateful for him and his wife choosing to be sealed for time and all eternity. He loved being a private pilot and was a member of the Civil Air Patrol. He was also a member of the Sons of Utah Pioneers. He was one of the co-founders of the Utah Woodcarvers Society. Where he enjoyed many hours of carving, teaching, and displaying his talent in carving shows.
We will miss him greatly and there will be an emptiness in our hearts. We will look forward to the great reunion in heaven.
We want to acknowledge with thankfulness to the most amazing people that took care of Mel in the last few days of his life.
