"Loving Mother"\r\n\r\nMerna passed away peacefully in her sleep in the early morning hours on Friday, February 9, 2018. She was born October 25, 1942 on a small farm in Weiser, Idaho to Sheldon Wilson Alder and Ruth Anderson. She was the youngest of 4 siblings: Lee (Dixie), Leora (Bob), and Lillie (Earl). \r\n\r\nMerna graduated from Weiser High School in 1960 where she was actively involved in their music programs. Merna continued her education by attending and graduating from BYU in 1964 and earning her Bachelor’s Degree in Elementary Education. She then taught for 2 years at Longview Elementary in Murray, Utah. She found her first love, Robert, and they were married and sealed in the Salt Lake Temple on July 31, 1964. Robert and Merna moved to West Valley City, where they raised their 6 children: John (Sherry), Ann, David (Nancy), Paul (Heather), Amy (Casey), Scott (Aaron “A.C.”); 10 grandchildren; and 1 great-grandchild. They divorced after many years of marriage. \r\n\r\nBecause of her love of learning, Merna worked as a librarian for the Salt Lake County Library where she eventually retired. After retirement, Merna met and married the second love of her life, Orlin Wood, on December 26, 1998. Orlin and Merna spent their short years together exploring the Grand Tetons and the great outdoors. Merna shared her love of music with those around her. She did this by serving as a Primary and Ward Chorister in the several wards she lived in. \r\n\r\nFuneral Services will be Friday, February 16, 2018, at 11:00 a.m. at Jenkins-Soffe Mortuary, 4760 South State Street, Murray, UT.
