Mesia Fisilau Obituary (1958 - 2022) - West Valley City, Utah

“Precious in the sight of the Lord is the death of His saints.” (Psalms 116:5) Our beloved Mother and Saint, Mesia Maama Fisilau, 69, received her reward to the Kingdom of Heaven on July 7th, 2022 after a courageous battle with ALS, surrounded by her family at home. Mesia was born March 13, 1953 in Pelehake, Tonga to Sione Maama and Lusia Tu’iono. Her family migrated to the United States where she graduated from Granger High School in 1977. She extended God’s healing hands as a nurse for years. She married Tamale Fisilau and gave birth to her firstborn, Christina Vakeifanga, in 1984. She was proud to be a mother. Mesia was influenced by her parents to be a loving and caring sister. She loved her brothers so much that she adopted her niece, Lisa Marie Maama in 1989 and later cared for her nephews, Keni, Lofi, and niece, Alexis as her own. Mesia was a fierce and faithful servant of God through the United Methodist Church. She served a mission in Kenya in 1995, was an active member of the UMC Women's group, and she served as a District Lay Leader. Her passion was shown through her ministerial and musical gifts that she shared with many generations of the youth who grew up at the Tongan United Methodist Church. Even towards the end when she lost her voice, she still made an impact by ministering to everyone through encouraging text messages. As a mother and aunty to many, she was generous, loving, and kind. She never judged anyone but extended God’s grace by providing a safe space for everyone. Mesia is preceded in death by her beloved parents, and two brothers, Lofi and Keni Maama, as well as her nephew, Sione Maama Jr. She is survived by her daughters, Vakeifanga, Lisa Marie (Jeremiah Patea), Alexis (Hugo Colorado). Her sons, Lutolofi, Keni Maama, and many of her loving nieces and nephews together with her grandchildren. Mesia’s homegoing service will be held on Friday, July 15, 2022, from 6 p.m. - 11 p.m., at the Tongan United Methodist Church, 1553 W. Crystal Avenue, West Valley City. Her final worship service and burial will be held on Saturday, July 16, 2022, from 8 a.m. - 2 p.m. at the Tongan United Methodist Church, 1553 W. Crystal Avenue, West Valley City. Friends and family are welcome to visit Mesia’s children at the same location this Thursday, July 14, 2022. Mesia will be remembered for her love of God, family, church, and community. “Well done, Good and Faithful servant of God.”
