Papa Mike's battle with ALS came to an end early in the morning on October 26th, with his 2 sons, and daughter-in-law by his side. Hard working, always cheerful, happy with a smile on his face and an all around good time, he fought ALS with that smile on his face and cracking jokes the whole time. \n\nMike was born on December 2nd 1961 in Sandy, UT, the youngest of 5. Papa Mike was a great athlete all his life. He had a passion for all sports but mainly basketball and baseball. He attended Jordan High School where he graduated with a scholarship to College of Eastern Uah, now known as USU Eastern, for both baseball and basketball. Papa Mike’s love for sports was something he passed to his boys. He worked for Salt Lake County in the Parks & Rec department, being an irrigation specialist and landscaper which he continued to do for many more years and loved making peoples yards beautiful and grass green. Mike moved to Washington, UT in April of 2017 where he spent the next 6 years with his mother, continuing the irrigation and landscaping career.\n\nPapa Mike had that passion for sports and was an avid lover of all sports but basketball was his main love. He always had a game on whether it be basketball, baseball, or football and he never failed to tell a story or give you his thoughts on a player or a play! You couldn’t get him to stop talking about sports. Any time you spoke with him he always found a way to tie in a sports reference, or put a smile on your face with his long stories that all somehow tied together. He always loved being active and being outside. He spent time being outside in the mountains, with a fishing pole and sitting on the shore, or at a campsite with a fire going telling story after story. \n\nHe always found a way to put himself before everyone and made sure that he kept a smile on everyone's face in the process. He may not have been perfect but he was imperfectly perfect. He was his son's biggest fan and wouldn’t be shy to tell you which one was his. Always telling a story or showing off his work as a landscaper he took pride in his work. Papa Mike was a friendly face and felt like everyone knew him or he knew everyone. He was always greeting them with a smile or hug and never failed to make everyone feel welcome. Papa Mike had the opportunity to coach not only his son, but other kids around him. He helped them learn how to play a new sport and position, and also gave them the confidence to be successful! \n\nMike is preceded in death by his Father (Clifford) and is survived by his mother (Shirley), his sons, Andrew (Addison) and James, granddaughter (Rhyklen), and his 4 siblings.\n\nFuneral services will be held on Friday, November 4, 2022 at 11:00 am at Jenkins-Soffe South Valley, 1007 W.
