Mike Valdez died October 24, 2008, surrounded by his loving family in his Murray home. \n\nHe was born June 15, 1932 in Arboles, Colorado to Antonio and Juanita Valdez. He was in the army from 1953-1956 when he was honorably discharged. He married Betty Tollis August 31, 1956. He worked for Geneva Steel in Carbon County until he and his wife moved to Salt Lake City. Mike worked in the car business for many years where he made many friends. He owned and operated Valdez Auto Sales for 28 years, until his retirement in 2006. He was an avid outdoorsman and loved to golf and go to the Sports Mall. He will be greatly missed by his family and friends. We love you papa!\n\nMike is survived by his wife, Betty Valdez and son Michael (Amy) Valdez; his granddaughters, Emily and Katie; his brother Arthur Valdez, Salt Lake City; Bill (Doreen) Valdez, Rock Springs, WY; Alice Gallegos, Denver, CO; Francis (Bernie) Stanek, Gilbert, AZ; Also survived by numerous nieces, nephews and friends whom he loved dearly.\n\nWe would like to wholeheartedly thank Cindy Sutter of the Veterans Administration, Laura Ladle and Kim Ryan from Harmony Home Health, and everyone involved with Mike’s care.\n\nA funeral Mass will be offered on Monday, Oct. 27 at St. Martin dePorres Catholic Church (4914 South 2200 West, in Taylorsville) at 11:00 AM. The Rosary will be said preceeding the Mass, at 10:30 AM.\n\nIn lieu of flowers, have a Crown and Coke and play a round of golf with your buddies, plant a tree, or donate to your favorite charity in Mike’s name.
