Mikiko Harada Obituary (1943 - 2019)

Our beloved Mikiko passed on to be reunited with her husband, Larry, while surrounded by her family on the afternoon of Saturday, December 28th, 2019. Miki was born in Pocatello, Idaho on January 26th, 1943 to Takuji and Toyono Akiyama. She attended Aberdeen High School, graduated from Pocatello High School, and continued studying her passion for beauty in cosmetology school. After her education, Miki completed an LDS mission in Japan. Upon her return to Pocatello, she met her soul mate, Larry, where they committed the rest of their lives to each other. Miki began styling hair out of their home in Pocatello, and eventually moved with her family and profession to the Salt Lake Valley. Miki spent the remainder of her life with her immediate family in West Jordan, UT. She was able to raise her children and still maintain her career doing hair by starting an in-home salon. In her spare time, Miki enjoyed cooking, painting, and spending time with her family. She was also an active member of the Japanese Church of Christ in Salt Lake City. Miki’s true passion was always to serve others. She had a remarkable ability to reach out to people in such an unselfish way, and will be missed by all that knew her. Miki is survived by her children Garin of West Jordan, Brach of South Jordan (Kelly), and Mariko of South Jordan. Also survived by 5 grandchildren. Surviving siblings include Ken Akiyama (Claramae), Shoji Akiyama, Joe Akiyama, Keyko Silverman, Kai Akiyama. Miki is preceded in death by her husband (Larry), sister (Chieko), and daughter (Caprice). Also preceded in death by her parents Takuji and Toyono Akiyama. The scheduled service to gather and celebrate is set for Monday, January 6th, 2020. Public viewing at 09:00am and memorial service at 10:00am, both at Jenkins-Soffe South Valley (1007 West South Jordan Parkway, South Jordan, UT 84095). Following the service, lunch will be served at the funeral home. After lunch, we will transit to Pocatello for graveside service at 04:30pm at the Mountain View Cemetery (1520 S 5th Avenue, Pocatello, ID 83205).
