Monte Mills Obituary (1935 - 2003)

Monte C. Mills "Gentle Giant" An angel of mercy came for Monte on the evening of September 20, 2003 as he ended his gallant battle with the ravages of Lou Gehrig's disease (A.L.S.). This wicked disease may have eaten away his body day by day but his courageous soul and touching sense of humor remained untouched. Monte C. Mills was born on April 28, 1935 to Frank and Ora Mills of Fairview, Utah. He served four years in the U.S. Navy and retired from Kennecott after 38 years of dedicated service to Kennecott's smelter. He spent many, many hours with friends and family enjoying his love of nature and the outdoors. He enjoyed hunting, and was an avid fisherman. He loved his time spent at his Fairview property and down in Marysvale riding A.T.V's and sharing his passion for cooking with his Dutch-Oven specialties. His legendary cooking was enjoyed at every gathering among friends and family. Everybody came to Monte for advise or help as he had such extensive knowledge and wisdom. He was known as a "jack of all trades". He did beautiful woodwork and carvings and spent many hours of love in his garage doing " something " for " someone ". If it was broke he could fix it, and if you needed it he could make it, his vast abilities made anything possible. We simply don't know what we are going to do without you, Monte! Monte's greatest joy in life was his love for his family and friends but nothing could compare to the love he had for his wife Luana, who was truly his soul mate and his "princess" for 35 years. Their love for each other was the kind most of us only dream of. He is survived by his precious wife Luana Mills, step-children Don Cohee and Judi (Shane) Scott, his cherished grandchildren Patrice Cohee and Sue Steel, Joe (Tiff) Cohee, Jonelle and Shanae Scott and three great-grand-children. Brothers, Rex (Susan), Ned (Norma), Lynn (Janet) and Don Mills; sisters, LaRee Rasmussen and Lola Pierce and his beloved nephew Tony (Pam) Mills as well as many others he loved. He was preceded in death by his father and mother and his brother Dell Mills; and brothers-in-law, Richard Rasmussen and Larry Pierce. Memorial services will be held Thursday Sept. 25, 2003 12 noon at the Jenkins-Soffe Mortuary 4760 So. State St., where friends and family may call Wednesday from 6-8 p.m. and Thursday one hour prior to services. Interment, Valley View Memorial Park. On Saturday Sept. 27, 2003 friends and family may gather at 3 p.m. at Monte's property in Fairview for a celebration of his life. In lieu of flowers family donations to the A.L.S. foundation 4578 So.
