“Together Again”\nMuriel A. Smith, age 87, passed away peacefully on September 27, 2009. She was born July 8, 1922, in Minneapolis, MN to Josephine Caroline Mattson and Arnold James Johnston. She graduated from Murray F. Tuley High School in Chicago, IL in 1940. She married her sweetheart, Chester Hill Smith, Jr., on June 15, 1942 one day before he was drafted into the Army Air Corp. They shared 40 years together.\nShe worked as a Quality Control Inspector at Illinois Tool Works and at the Quality Control Corporation, Chicago, IL for 20 years, retiring in 1992. She loved her dogs, Tinker and Miley, and many previous beloved pets—but most of all, she loved her family.\nMuriel is survived by her two children, June (Gene) Petrie, SLC, Robert (Jacki) Smith, IL; brother, Fred (Bernice) Barton, AZ; five grandchildren, Cpl Greg Smith (USMC), Jill, Karen, Boyd, Mark (Amy) Petrie; two great-grandchildren, Kelsey Pitts and Jordan Petrie; and her dog, Miley.\nThe family would like to thank the Silverado Hospice staff and volunteers for their loving care.\nFuneral services will be Friday, October 2, 2009 at 11:00 a.m. at Jenkins-Soffe Mortuary, 4760 So. State Street, where friends and family may pay their respects Thursday evening from 6:00-8:00 p.m. and Friday morning from 10:00-10:45 a.m. Interment: Elysian Burial Gardens.
