Murray, Utah
Nancy Jane Courtney, 75, passed away peacefully from natural causes on December 31, 2022, in Murray, UT. Nancy was born to William M. and Jane M. Sands in Pittsburgh, PA on August 14, 1947. She was the oldest of three children. She spent most of her youth in Bethel Park, PA, but moved to Nassau, Bahamas in her early twenties with her first child, Monica. There she met her future husband, Paul Courtney. The three moved to Miami , FL, where Wendy was born. The family then moved to Canada, living first in Ontario and then Quebec. Her third child, Jim, was born in Quebec.
Her first marriage eventually ended in divorce, but she later met Karim in Quebec. She stayed with Karim for many years and took care of him as he battled a losing fight with cancer. (Just recently, she contacted Karim’s family in Morocco, wishing them luck in the 2022 World Cup.)
In her mid-fifties, she moved to Murray, UT to be nearer her mother. She worked primarily as a receptionist in a medical office. Her two major passions in life were bridge (she competed nationally and became a Life Master) and sports. She was a life-long Steeler’s fan and also loved tennis (especially Rafael Nadal). Her Steel City Mafia friends and family at Club 90 will greatly miss her cheers and warm smile.
Nancy is preceded in death by her parents, Paul Courtney, and Karim. She is survived by her sister Marin S. Robinson (Sandia Park, NM); her brother William H. Sands (Riverton, UT); her three children, Monica, Wendy, and Jim Courtney, all who reside in Canada; and her four grandchildren (Lauren, Autumn, Maya, and Evan).
A graveside service will be held in her honor at 1:30 PM on Tuesday, January 17, 2023, at South Jordan Cemetery, 10630 South 1055 West, South Jordan, UT.
