Naomi Wainwright Moore Obituary (1920 - 2010)

Naomi Wainwright Moore died September 29, 2010 at the age of 90. She was born in Evanston, Wyoming on June 20, 1920 to Earl and Gladys Beard Wainwright. She grew up in Evanston and graduated from Evanston High School in 1938. The family enjoyed traveling the newly-constructed roads of the Intermountain West and spending their summers at their Glendale cabin in Weber Canyon. She attended BYU then returned to Evanston and married Irving B. Moore on April 13, 1942; later solemnized in the Salt Lake Temple. Irving joined the Armed Services and returned after victory in WWII. They lived in Logan after the war and then moved to Salt Lake City in 1950. Irving was a history teacher at East High School. They enjoyed raising horses and working on their small farm in Tallmadge, and later they developed a scenic ranch in Summit County. Irving died in 1985. Naomi made her career as a retail children’s clothing specialist working for JC Penney, Young America Fashions and Hammonds in the Salt Lake area malls. She retired from JC Penney at the age of 83. She enjoyed playing computer games, flower gardening, doll collecting, turtles, Native American artwork, horse races, winters in St. George, and spending time with her family, friends, and pets. She was an active member of the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints and she held many church positions in the Millcreek Eighth Ward, where she will be remembered for her skills as a chorister and as a dedicated Relief Society Visiting Teacher. Her greatest satisfaction came from helping others in need. She was a trustworthy and generous friend, willing to listen, and provided wise and confidential advice. She is survived by her three sons, Dennis (Eileen) Moore, Mesquite, NV, Terry (Lory) Moore, Santa Clara, UT, and Shawn Moore, Evanston, WY; brothers, Paul (Barbara) Wainwright and David Moore, Salt Lake City; ten grandchildren; and ten great-grandchildren. Also survived by her pets, Candleface the Cat and Tommy the Tortoise. Funeral services will be held at 11:00 a.m.in the Millcreek Eighth Ward Chapel (4600 S. 600 E.) on Wednesday, October 6, 2010. A viewing will be held at Jenkins-Soffe Mortuary, 4760 South State Street in Murray Tuesday evening from 6-8 p.m. and one hour prior to funeral services at the church on Wednesday. Interment: Coalville Cemetery.
