Nellie Katherine Johnsen Davis Obituary (1925 - 2017)

Nellie Katherine Johnsen Davis (known by friends as "Kitty" Davis) born April 3, 1925, passed away peacefully at her daughter's home in Sandy, Utah surrounded by family on Monday, January 30, 2017. Kitty, the daughter of Nellie and Erastus Johnsen, grew up in Richmond, Utah where she graduated from North Cache High School and then attended a quarter at BYU and another one at Utah State. As a child she loved to help her dad on his farm and loved to ride horses. She had a pinto horse named "Trophy". It was fun to hear her talk about her childhood as she would share stories of her fond memories of her life in Richmond. She met William Roy Davis ("Bill") during her college years when he was serving as a medic in the Navy. They were married in San Diego, California on April 10, 1946 when Bill was home from a tour of duty in the Pacific. They were later sealed in the Logan LDS Temple on July 8, 1958. Kitty was employed at Utah Mortgage and Loan full time for over 30 years and then part time at Cache Valley Bank for about 11 years. She was a hard worker and very good at her job. She liked being active and keeping busy. She loved to crochet, Wii bowl, go out to lunch, shop, read, visit, travel, and spend time with her family. One of her favorite activities was playing golf. She and her husband were members of the Logan Golf and Country Club for over 50 years and they enjoyed playing together and with friends. She served in the Ladies Association of the Country Club in various positions which included being President of the Association for one year. Vacations for her and Bill as well as her children were always centered around being able to golf. Many fond memories of her children are with her at the Logan Golf and Country Club as well as many other courses in the places they traveled. Later in life Kitty and her two sisters enjoyed getting together often and especially enjoyed week long trips to Jackson Hole, Wyoming which they did for about 6 years in a row. She loved to laugh and had a great sense of humor. She often said that in difficult times you could either laugh or cry and she chose to laugh and take the positive approach. She was an active member of the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints and faithfully fulfilled many callings over the years. She always wanted to have a current Temple recommend and attended the temple regularly as long as she could. She is recognized by her family and friends for her strength, faithfulness, loyalty, and love.Her life is a testimony because of the way she lived the gospel and her valiancy to the testimony she had. Throughout her life she has been an example of what it means to sacrifice for others, work hard, and support family and friends. She loved her family so very much and showed that to them constantly in everything she did. She will be greatly missed by her children, grandchildren, great-grandchildren and all those who knew her. She was loved by family more than can possibly be expressed! She is survived by her sons Kim, Mark (wife Debbie), daughter Peggy (husband Jeff Johnson), 16 grandchildren: Kimberly, Neal, Tami, Cyndi, Mindy, Eric, Ladd, Brett, Mikki, Kammi, Torri, Kirri, Kyle, Bryce, Carley, Abby, and 38 great-grandchildren. She was preceded in death by her parents, 2 sisters (Adonia & Marie) a brother (Conway) and a daughter in law (JoNell Davis). A viewing will be held at the Jenkins-Soffe Mortuary from 7:00-8:00pm on Friday February 3, 2017 at 1007 W. South Jordan Parkway (10600 South), South Jordan Utah. A viewing will also be held on Saturday, February 4, 2017 from 9:00-10:30am, with a funeral service following at 11:00 am at the Hillcrest 2nd Ward Chapel (875 North 1500 East) in Logan, Utah. Interment at Logan City Cemetery. A special thanks to all the Hospice Care givers in Sandy as well as in Logan for your kindness, support, and love.
