Noel Jay Gilbert was born in Murray, Utah on July 27, 1945 to Leon (Pink) and Kathyrn (Kate) Gilbert. He died in Salt Lake City, Utah on June 13, 2007, 6 ½ years after being diagnosed with melanoma cancer. \nNoel was raised in Murray, Utah and graduated from Murray High School. He served in the U.S. Army during the Vietnam War. He worked at Kennecott Copper as an ore haulage truck driver for 37 years. Noel enjoyed camping and fishing. He played softball with the Highland Boys Kennecott softball team. Noel loved gardening and especially caring for his roses. He was a talented wood craftsman and spent much of his time “fixing” and building. He maintained many close friendships throughout his life. \nNoel married Linda Hofhine; later divorced. He married Charlene McEwan Chambers on October 12, 1996. Noel’s greatest joy in his life was his family, his six daughters, and ten grandchildren. His later life was spent supporting their accomplishments and demonstrating his pride for them. \nNoel is preceded in death by his parents; a sister, RaNae; his nieces, Annette, Jennifer and Suzanne. Noel is survived by his brother, Jim (Sandra) Gilbert; wife, Charlene; daughters, LaDawn Gilbert, Kristy (Jim) Wegener, Yvette Gilbert, Marilee (Reid) Wilson, Kristy Mayer, Janell (Paul) Hampshire; grandchildren, Christopher, Shaelyn, Jessica, Ryan, Lani, Steven, Mathew, Daniel, Dakota, and Audrey; nephew, Andy (Peggy) Gilbert, niece, Jill (Scott) Emmett. \nNoel will be remembered for his patience, kindness, honesty and compassion. \nA special thanks to Huntsman Cancer Institute, Dr. Samlowski, Dr. Jensen, Kathleen, Julie Smit, the infusion room staff, and all other caregivers. \nFuneral services will be held on Saturday, June 16, 2007 at 11:00 a.m. at the LDS Church located at 4881 W. Cindy Lane (9610 S.), So.
