Orville Raymond Mayne Obituary (1919 - 2014)

Orville Raymond Mayne was born in Loma, Colorado September 8, 1919. Orville grew up on a farm in Loma, Colorado with his parents, Ray and Clara; three brothers, Williard, Howard & Rueben; sisters Elverta, Marie and Eileen. He loved the mountain range, the free spirit of life, and was taught at a very young age how to raise their own animals only for food. In 1939 Orville ventured off to join the National Guard at a very young age and then in 1941 he enlisted in the United States Air Corps Army. His dream was to be an Air Force pilot but it was not meant to be when it was discovered he was color blind. Orville was a very proud World War II soldier & was stationed in India. He served his country as a Master Sergeant in the United States Army Air Corps with honor and dignity. After the war Orville worked as a meteorologist in Wichita, Kansas where he met and married Joan McCoy.They had three daughters and then resided in Southern California. He attended the University of Southern California and graduated with a degree in engineering. He was employed with Howard Hughes Aircraft, Douglas and Boeing. As with all of our extraordinary service men and women, Orville did not escape from war without scars. Some you may see; some are not visible. World War II was very hard on our veterans and they sacrificed many years of their lives and should never be forgotten. Orville is survived by his 3 daughters Linda St. Clair, Cinde Wilson, Pam Helmle and son- in-law Francis Helmle-Roland Campbell; grandsons, Rick and Danny Helmle; his beautiful sister, Eileen Coons; and one very devoted nephew, Kenny Mayne.
