South Jordan, Utah
Our beloved Mother, Grandmother, and Great-grandmother (GG) passed away peacefully in Riverton, Utah surrounded by family on September 30, 2024, at the age of 91.
She was born March 17, 1933 in Bell, California. She was the second oldest of five daughters to Mae and Fred Buettner. She graduated from Bell High School in 1951. She went on to attend Brigham Young University, where she became a lifelong devoted BYU sports fan. Although born and raised in California, she spent most of her summers in Riverton visiting cousins, aunts, and grandparents. During one of those summer trips she met Donald O. Jex, who would later become her husband. They were married January 9, 1959, and later solemnized in the Salt Lake Temple.
They settled and raised their family in South Jordan, Utah on a mink ranch, and she was a great support to her husband for over 50 years. Besides helping Don on the mink farm she worked at various elementary and high schools as a secretary in the Jordan School District. She retired with 20 plus years of service. She also worked part-time at Mervyn’s department store in the evenings in the gift wrapping department.
Her greatest passion in life was her family and creating long lasting traditions and memories. These included yearly beach trips to San Juan Capistrano, California. She made every holiday special including each of our birthdays, yearly Easter egg hunts, Halloween, and Christmas. She also enjoyed spending time throughout the year at her St. George home.
Throughout her life she served in various church callings in Relief Society, Young Women’s, and Primary for The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter- day Saints. She was a great example to all, of selflessly serving others.
We would personally like to thank the Riverton Beehive Home for the past 10 months for their love and compassion they showed our mother. We would like to personally thank Nilsa, Abry, Marcus, Diana, Lily, Lesa, CeCe her Physical Therapist, Lacey her NP, Juan the owner, and all others who cared for our sweet mom.
Our family will be eternally grateful for all the neighbors, family, and friends who visited and lifted her spirits during this time away from her home.
She is survived by her children, Todd (Wendy), Debbie (John), Jim (Deanna), Julie (Ken), 13 grandchildren, and 22 great-grandchildren. She is also survived by her sister Shiela Doran of Chandler Arizona.
